Some people say that sleeping on the left side is bad for the health. They say, that our heart gets under pressure that way, it has to work harder to supply the body with blood. While sleeping, I use both sides of my body and sometimes even sleep on my belly. I haven't noticed any negative effect when sleeping on the left side so far. So, what do you think? Is it really harmful to sleep on the left side, should we choose our positions carefully?

I have to say that I don't remember. I sleep on my stomach, on my back and on my sides. My sleep is so deep, I don't remember my body movements during the night. I think it is a myth, you can sleep they way you want.

I also don't think that this habit has some significant threat to our health. Thanks for sharing!:)

Hey Biomech, When I go to sleep, then I always do it on my left side, but so far I haven't noticed any health problems that might be caused by sleeping on the left side.

I had never heard that. i had heard that if you sleep on your back it keeps you from getting wrinkles on your face soon but have never been able to do it and also heard that puts pressure on your spine. i imagine it puts a little pressure on something in your body no matter how you sleep

One thing I heard is that you may have nightmares more often than usual, if sleeping on the back. But there are plenty of such stories around there, so I think it does make sense. You're right, you can't choose such position where you wouldn't have any pressure applied to your body. Unless you're a astronaut, they're sleeping in the zero gravity, hehe Thanks for responding!:)

I have heard that before. Its not good for people with heart conditions they say. People who have sufferred a heart attack or have heart problems it will decrease the sympathetic nervous activity in your body. Lying on the left side decreases your heart's ability to function correctly. As for sleeping on the ride side it lowers your blood pressure and heart rate which is good for people with heart conditions. I don't have any type of heart condition but when I become aware of sleeping on that side I will move to the right side.

Well, thanks for enlightening me on that topic. I don't have any heart problems, so I think it's okay for me to sleep on the left side. I just can't sleep all night long using my right side or my back. So sometimes I have to use my left side too.

I also like to change sides during the sleep and before falling asleep. I can't sleep for a long time on one side. Thanks for answering!:)

I've got the same opinion. If sleeping on the left side really affects anything, the effects must be very small and unnoticeable, at least in my case. Thanks for answering!:)
