Would you donate an organ?

I am very curious about why people would not want to donate their organs upon death. I just don't get it. We don't need our organs anymore once we die, so why not help someone else? I am not critical of those who are opposed to organ donation, I am truly curious as to why. If you are against organ donation, please help me understand and share your point of view.

Maybe some of the people saying they wouldn't donate are a little like I am. I think I've seen too many movies made of someone that needs an organ then someone like me gets in an auto accident. The accident is not life threatening at all but because I said I would donate an organ they play the percentages. They see by me dying that I would save 10 or 15 lives so its better I die. Do I have a vivid imagination maybe but its something to think about.

Doctors take an oath, they are dedicated to save lives. And there is multiple medical staff present. The stories about letting someone die or killing them to harvest organs are just scary fiction, urban myths. There are stringent procedures about this to protect everyone.

I think organ donation is a noble cause. It feels good that a part of you lives, long before you had gone and that somebody's life had benefited from it. I still need to get a donor card but I have already expressed my wishes for organ donation to my husband.
I think organ donation should be a choice and not something to be dictated or forced
as it would be a violation of his right. Helping someone should be based on free-will.

I put my name down and have been a registered organ donor for about three years now. If I am involved in a tragic accident, it will be at least slightly re-assuring to know that a part of me would be resurrected and used to help the life of another. After all, it's not like I will be needing them any more, so why leave them in me to decompose and feed the maggots?

I am an organ donor and so is my husband. I know that my mom is an organ donor. I never uderstood either why people would not want to be a donnor. I wish more people would be a donor. I am not sure if this is the case in all states, but I know in Idaho when you get your driver's license it asks you if you want to be a organ donor and if you do one marks the box.
