Gutter talk in the august senate.

This country is truly in a pathetic state. First, we have had senators who can't even understand what legislation is. That is because they should have stayed as actors in show business. Entertainment was their cup of tea. But as of yesterday afternoon, the supposedly lawyers with top caliber credentials, had reduced themselves lower than those who can't even articulate simple bill proposals. Our ace senators countered their fellow senators in gutter language over the Villar double insertion controversy. I think that they are not even fit to enter show biz.

you said it right, eileenleyva. people of high stature, senators, stoop so low, insulting their exalted positions, which, in the first place, is not their, only the mandate, the mandate we have given them. their acts are a direct affront of the trust we have given them, as voters. and to think that they call themselves "your honor," something they hardly deserve at all, with the way they are acting inside the august halls. you can have a better feel reading if you visit me at http://pinoygnews.multiply.com/... back to what i was writing about... ah, just look at what people do for money. they are as crook as the cop fleecing drivers on the street, because some did that for the money. well, of course, that's another topic for discussion.

The salary and the pork are way to high, too. I think they are overpaid with our hard earned tax money. There must be qualifications for the senatorial posts, and the congressional, too. At this point, we cannot just leave our country to the mishandling of funds of power hungry politicians. We have to vote rightly.

because of widespread corruption and the pervading greed of elected officials, including members of the family, they have already expropriated the government -- especially the money, the taxes we pay! you are right, we must do something... the vote will be the first step... together with the vote, we should inform others about this kleptocratic situation we are in, which is slowly eating our country...

I think you are right about your observation. What is happening in the Senate is not legislation at all but all of showmanship of whos who in the senate. To make their names float in the campaign and make way for them to be known to the public. It seems they are not that keen in their primary roles anymore right now as everybody is reeling towards campaigning for themselves to hold on to their position comes May 2010.

That is why you and I must choose our senators wisely. It is not too late. We can still bring people who really care in that august chamber.

It was really kind of pathetic the ways senators discuss matters. Just imagine a seasoned senator making a comment, disgusting as it is over the word insertion. To think that he has been a senator for years and years and yet he should have acted with dignity and not let anger rule over him. I just hope that since we have a few more remaining months before elections, that they will use the senate floor to a more worthy cause the will benefit more people instead of lambasting each other.

I was indeed disappointed. I rooted for this one in the past. But he frustrated me many times.

I think these politician should all audition for Pinoy Big Brother. I'm sure it's going to be a very exciting episode. Just imagine a bunch of politicians trying to out do each other. That's where they should be, in showbiz and not in the halls of senate.

I am sorry but I do not watch Pinoy Big Brother. But maybe you are right. These actors might as well be confined in that tv show, for lack of better sense in the senate.

You're right, its really fun watching them on TV, they are like little children. They think they can fool the Filipino people. There are Filipinos who are more intelligent than them who knows the truth from lies. We can also blame our fellow Filipinos who voted for these actors and actresses to the senate and other government positions. I just hope they learn their lessons already and not vote them again.

I have seen that. I was really not expecting that from him since he I treated him as a highly respected senator. But when he threw that comment to Sen. Roxas, it shattered all my expectations of him. It was really inappropriate, out of the topic and disrespectful to a colleague and especially to all women in the world.
Even though Sen. Pimentel apologized yesterday, it is enough because it was stated in a prayer and was very generalized. He also claims he did not do anything wrong and he said the word "insertion" without malice.
What has been done is done. He can't change the fact that he did it.

What is without malice? What he said reverberated into the carenderias and coffee shoppes. At the end of the day, character cannot be belied. The former human rights defender and erstwhile senator has fallen to an old trick of politics - insult your opponent and try to get away with it. He did not. I am not sorry for him. I can only give admiration to people with character. His time is done.
