Imagine this scenario...
A new job offer presents itself unexpectedly containing all the bells and whistles that your current position lacks. You accept the amazing offer from the new company. Your boss, who you really like, practically begs you to stay and counter-offers with a competitive deal which is slightly less attractive than the new offer.
Do you stay out of loyalty or keep your word with the new employer?

That actually depends upon the new perks being offered. Still, I might take the new job. I once worked as a Chemist for a cement factory - I had a great pay, great benefits, several bonuses in a year, 2 days off per week, 30 leave credits, etc. but it was located a 1-hour boat ride + 3-hour bus ride away from my home. When I got married, I quit the job for something that is just 10 minutes from our home, has a slightly higher pay but only 5 days leave credits, 1 day off per week, and without the bonuses and perks that I had in my previous job.
It did not take me too long to make the decision because I would rather stay close to home and my hubby than have the perks and benefits but away from my loved ones.
Let us just say, to each his own .

That must have been a difficult benefits package to give up! At the same time I can definitely understand your desire to be closer to home. That's one of the factors that's nagging at me now. The new job is only 2 hours from my family. My current job is 8 hours away.

That really is a dilemma. Still, if the new job offers a better pay, a better package, take it. Do not let your old boss tie you to that job. In the job world, you really shouldn't be too easy to stay loyal to one company when there is a better one offering you a slot.
