i have an asus eee pc 1001HA. i buyed it recently and it fits my usage bill too.
it hasn't shown any problems till now.. i prefer assembled pc's to branded ones cause branded ones have a higher price tag and also branded ones have 1 yr warranty on the whole pc whereas assembled one has warranty on every part

I have a Compaq Laptop thing great. It is several years old and it needs a new battery is go but works fine with the Power supply plugged in. My granddaughter is now using it for her school work.
I also bought one from a person who had it built for me and it seemed to always give me problems. I will stick with a brand from a store.

mine is an xpc shuttle, almost the same specs as yours except for the memory at 512mb and almost 8 years. Hardware problems are inevitable with tear and wear, but at the moment, still working well but slow as compared to the new generation multi-core processors. I also have a armada 700 laptop p3 700mhz, very old at 10 years but still at pristine condition as i first had it in 2000.

Branded PC is good, but I like to pick my own hardware. So I buy the spare parts one by one and assemble myself.
The pros about branded PC:
- You got warranty for a full package.
- The hardware always (guaranteed) compatible one another.
The contras about branded PC:
- Hard to upgrade since the specification already max.
- Not compatible with other brand.
- More Expensive
And pros self assembled PC:
- Easy to upgrade
- Cheaper
The contras about self assembled:
- Sometimes the hardware not compatible one another.
- Warranty for each hardware
:)
