Did you know that a each year on an average a prison collects $40,000 per inmate that is houses. That is more money than alot of people make in 1 year that work 9-5 jobs?Do you actually believe that it costs that much to house an inmate for a year? If you think so you have never been to prison!

Are you serious? 40 thousand a year is truly a lot of money as a matter of fact it is what most middle class families might earn in a year! it makes it seem as if being imprisoned provides a better standard of living than other non criminals.

you dont't get to keep the money the prisons do and they only spend what the need to on you. Which is the bare minimum.

i`ll go to jail all by my self if its good then home:). but its to much 40.000$ / year / inmate. A jail has at least 200. 200 x 40,000$ = no founds in next 2 years :))

It's definitely big business. But, they are also paying employees, buying food, paying inmate medical expenses (probably the majority of the cost) plus transportation costs.
