I was just wondering how many people were thinking of buying Simon Cowell's Haiti Charity Single when it comes out. There are loads of famous singers involved like Mariah Carey, Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, Take That and Cheryl Cole. It is a cover of REM's Everybody Hurts. It is obviously for a great cause so I'm pretty sure I will buy it, but I am so intrigued as to what it will sound like - the artists are so different!
Will you buy it and do you just feel Simon Cowell is partly trying to do this for another number one single?

I'm not planning on buying it.
I'll be very surprised if it's any good musically - the last songs recorded in that Band Aid everybody sings a line style haven't been. It'll probably be over emoted yet full of pseudo emotion/saccharin , ultra sentimental and aimed at the lowest common-denominator. I love the original of Everybody Hurts, it's made me cry at times and it still gets me, but it's really not the most appropriate song for what's happened. Also it all feels like an attempt by Simon Cowell to try and make himself look like the good guy, while the amounts going to charity from this song won't me much of a loss to him compared to all the money he's already earned.

I would buy a charity single if I liked it, just as I would any other. The fact that Kylie Minogue is involved does not fill me much optimism that the quality of the song would be good.
