The Nerve of Some Article Clients

I know this is a rant, but I have to let it out as I'm so furious. Why is it that these clients are so exacting when it comes to deadlines, constantly reminding you when they want it and yet when it's time for them to give the full payment, they make you wait forever to the point that you're already thinking you've been scammed? That's clearly a risk in WAH freelance work, but still, they've got some gall. I'm not taking any more assignments from this dude I've written for lately. It started out so great too. He gave me great feedback after my first assignment with him (that was hourly so the system we were with took care of payment) and then he gave the 50% down payment I asked for for the second assignment. When that was done he said he was so impressed and he was hiring me to do more. Numbskull that I was I thought oh, he seems pretty trustworthy so I went ahead and wrote 10 more articles. Two weeks passed and I never got the remaining 50% for the second assignment. I followed up on things and he thought I was fishing for more work (no word at all about whether he was paying me or not). Grrr. As though I'd write for him again. Of course, I'm just biding my time to see how this thing ends. It won't do to burn bridges right away as I'm still waiting for that payment. I'm sorry. This probably sounds incoherent, but I needed to vent. There. I'm done. :)

Sounds like my experience with oDesk clients. The headache is not worth the pay. I wish there was a person with ongoing work - even if it didn't pay much. Truthfully speaking, I have had better luck with content mills since I've been freelancing full time. In the words of Willie Clinton, I feel your pain. Yet, it may be time to diversify your writing and seek other opportunities. Even if it requires some continuing education on your part. Best.

Thanks for the response. I'm glad somebody can relate to what I'm going through. My client finally did pay up, btw... :)

I hope you feel better and just remember to not do any work until he pays you up to date. At least you got half!
