hi all! i have a daughter, and i would just like to know how you taught or trained your daughter to pee? i would really like to get her started soon without day diapers, but i wonder how to teach her to tell me if she needs to relieve herself.
do you have any ideas? are you a mom or a dad with such experience? please let me know.
and by the way, how old was your baby when you started training her to do so? it would really save us a lot of expense with diapers if she learns how to pee by herself. i cannot get clear answers from my mom, probably because she forgot already. she told me that with my brother it was easier because when the peepee would erect, it signalled that my brother was going to pee. so from early on, she did not have problems with him. i guess she did have problems with me. lol
anyway, if you have any ideas that can help, please let me know by posting your answers here. i would really appreciate any insight. if you have nothing good to contribute to this discussion, please don't respond by saying good luck to you or something.
thank you very much my mylot friends! :D

Have a potty to help teach her. It does a lot. At night, let her wear diapers, you do want a good night sleep. Don't bring her to the potty too often, take it at about 1 and a half to 2 hours gap, a little shorter if she drank a lot. Expect to clean the floor as that will erase a lot of your frustration. :D

The first thing is to get rid of the disposable diapers/pull-ups.
buy a few pair of thicker cloth training pants and a few pair of plastic panties for during the day.the thicker pants will hold a fair bit of pee,and the plastic panties will help save the furniture,as well as keep her wet a bit more between changes.
this will teach her what it feels like with wet pants.
you can also set the kitchen timer for about every hour to start with, and let her know, when it goes off,she is to try to go potty, you can race her to it,(letting her win of course).
I hope this helps get you started.
Many Blessings.

That takes a lot of patience and perseverance. My son did gave up his diapers at age three but then we still put diapers at night because he still frequents wetting at night time.
How we did it was rather a slow process of arguing and convincing that its better to wear regular shorts without any diapers at all. We just realized one day that he was not asking for diapers and was also learning to pee all by himself. Without wetting his pants or his underpants.

my son is four years old already and we started training him around 18 months. my wife always brings him to the toilet to see if he would pee. then she will bring him to the toilet every half an hour just to jot down how many minutes are the gap for the last pee. we also let him wear briefs while we are training him. it is kind of messy lucky we have no carpet and my wife does has patient dealing with this. when i pee i also bring him with me so i can be a model. monkey see monkey do. maybe after 6 months he was the one who is telling us to bring him at the toilet for the reasons that he cant reach the light. it does saved us a lot when it comes on diaper expences. when we go out we let him wear pull up diapers so he wont wet his pants if we are not near any toilet. hope this tip helps and remember patience.

hi
I have a three year old son.. And my problem is just like yours, on the daytime i let him wear a brief sometimes a short pants, but I still put on diaper when its time for nap at the afternoon, and another one in the evening before going to bed.
My mom said do not put on any diaper when he's sleeping for him to know that he'll get wet when he peed on his brief, then next time he would tell if he feels like peeing.
But the bed will get wet, and the pee smell will remain for a days.
so now I'm using still 2 diaper per day..but I know he'll learn soon as he grow up.

I thiknk it mostly depends on the surroundings. For instance we tried at 2 years, and didn't really work. 6 months later, when we heard that at kindergarten, there were other kids his age starting, we asked if he wanted to try. He said yes. It took a good few weeks without the diaper, and eventually he got it.
I guess it's up to the child really, more than the parent.
