dear mylotters,
i am not a good cook. in fact, i seldom cook because it is just me in the house and i dont have to cook for anyone but myself. but there are times when i feel i want to taste something different from the daily food that i take. so... i experiment.
do you ever do experimenting in the kitchen? does it come out delicious? do share please.

Hi ann
i live with my family, big one, the cooking is done by my wife and daughter in laws, but while i was in the hostel, in my student days, i learnt cooking because of need, the food never tasted as food cooked by my late mom, so i know cooking
This i do even now on sundays with them, my wife likes my recipes, appreciates allways
Thanks for this nice post.

hello professor,
there are very few husbands who love to cook during weekends. i find it very sweet. at least you give your wife some leeway and rest to do other things not routinary.
am sure it is well appreciated.
happy mylotting. and welcome!

When i was first time start to cook for my family, i do remembered that i also tried to do experiment on certain food, which i found quite easy to cook, from a recipe book. I had tried my best to follow the steps in preparing the food. Because in the end of the result, it tastes quite nice but not to the actual taste that it should be. But, i do satisfied with my first cooking experience because the food still tastes nice and most important still can be eaten, as my mother always said.

hi myfb2009,
experimenting can sometimes result to fun especially if the outcome is kinda nice but soggy, or creamy taste but hard like rock.
but there is this saying, practice makes perfect. so just keep on trying. am sure you are an expert now.
have a nice day.

I like to experiment sometimes, when I have the time. I live alone, too, and food tends to get boring because I don't put much effort into it. When it gets that way, then I try to do something different, or I look at a recipe and think, "What if...." It does not always turn out even edible, far less delicious! But sometimes, I get it right... then I usually can never do it again because I don't write it down.

In my house, it is me and my husband so I like trying out new thing when I can just to keep it interesting. One time I tried frying fish with coconut oil and boy did it taste nasty lol. My husband asked me not to do that again with that oil. So I cooked things with olive oil and he actually liked the flavor. I love also trying different desserts too. My next thing to try is Monkey bread when I get a bundt pan. It is a dessert that uses biscuits, sugar, cinnamon etc. you layer it in a pan and then after it is done, you just pull it apart.

dear binarykat,
it would have tasted much better if you used coconut milk instead of coconut oil. but honestly, it depends on one's tastebuds.
id like to try that monkey bread too. hope its a success.
have a nice day.

Yes I always like to try and experiment new things in the kitchen. I get so tired of the same thing over and over so I will try something new or my husband will make something new. My ideals can't always work or come out good. But my husbands new experiments with food always comes out right and good.

I can actually call myself a scientist but I dont experiment in a laboratory, I experiment in the kitchen like you do. There were a lot of times that the food comes out good but most of the time it's bad. I have my husband as the critic. If is it good he eats it like he's never eaten before and if he doesn't like it, we give it to the dogs. Good thing the dog would eat it. =)

Hi ann, I have to cook for the next eleven months, but the meals have to be easy. After my first marriage break up, and I lived in a house, I became a pretty good cook, not original, needed a cook book, but my kids loved the meals I prepared on the weekends I had access. However, now I'm in a one room studio apartment, with a minibar size fridge, so it's two burner hotplates, and a microwave, with only a few utensils, so the variety is limited. Have a nice day, Mike.

Yes, I love to experiment in the way I cook, and oddly enough, most of it has turned out very well. :)) I think since I've cooked many things for a lot of years and know the basics, it helps when I want to just try something new.

dear karen,
am sure it is always fun cooking the experimental way. and i am very glad it turns out well for you. mine sometimes is a disaster. because it it doesnt appear hard, it turns soggy and overcooked.

I always try different meals to cook. Firstly, I search the method in the website, then print out and follow it. Good luck!
