How to stop pop-up pages ?

When I go to some news-sites , some pages come out silently, mostly advertisements. Why is that so ? How to prevent it ? Please help !

I would suggest what everyone else is suggesting..using the popup blocker. You can find it in the tools option. I think there is a high, medium, and low option. I have mine on medium and I don't have a lot of problems with popups.

Pop up blockers should be activated on your internet options but sometimes they are written in different script so they sneak through. The only way to avoid pop ups is to stop surfing the internet, yea, sounds like a stupid suggestion to me too.
