Could anyone help me on how to protect my wifi?

to those I.T or anyone who know how to protect wifi, hope u could help me..i got my new internet connection just this week and its a wireless internet. there's a lan and wifi,in the modem there's a button for wifi? question, would it be ok i just off the button of wifi manually? or still they can connect my internet thru wifi?hope anyone could help..

If you are using a modem with wifi and dont want that anyone else should use it. I should recommend you to read the manual of the modem and configure your modem to allow connection with only your computer. This can be done by adding your computer's MAC address to the list of allowed MAC addresses in the modem. you can get the information on how to change the settings from the manual of the modem.

you need to enable the security features of the wireless router. since you have a pc connected thru lan, you can access the router's web page then go to wireless settings. You would find the security settings then just enable it by choosing WEP or WPA (WPA is the stronger security) then it would require you to provide a passkey which you would need to type when you connect wireless. It would be advisable to change the login password of your modem if you still have it by default or if your just going to setup the wireless security. Now all we just
