Is that the door?

You've waited all week to see the next part of your favourite TV show. You are settled, comfy and warm. Drink and snack to hand everybody has been sent out or knows better than to interrupt. Then it happens - there's someone at the door and they want to speak to you!! Are you in or are you OUT!?

Unless it's an emergency, I'm out. My family knows better than to call when my soap opera is on - they know I won't answer. Someone pounding on your door is a bit harder to ignore, but especially if it's a saleman, I'm out.

Fave show or not. I'm out for salesmen. We never get sales women - maybe they are too sensible.

Unfortunately, I'm in. But in my case, it's usually my phone that rings. I can't tell you how many "wrap ups" I've missed at the end of shows because of this. Annoying, isn't it?

Very few people leave messages. That's annoying, too.

HA! I bought myself a PVR for xmas this year, so all I do is press record and walk away. Then I can watch it anytime and fastforward through the commercials in a split second, as well. Way better than a VCR. Wayyyy, wayyyyy better. I love it!

It depends who they are! If I know them then I will probably open the door rather than leaving them standing there. But hopefully when I drop "subtle" hints about being just about to watch a very important programme, they will decide not to stay for long. However, if I don't know them I will pretend not to be in. My daughter usually prevents me from doing this by shouting "There's someone at the door!! Why aren't you answering it??!". But providing she stays quiet I will check the peep-hole to see if I know them and then not answer it. These days it's usually someone pretending to be from a non-existent charity trying to sell me overpriced cleaning products . But that's another story. (And another discussion perhaps...)

Why doesn't your daughter just answer the door herself, if it bothers her so much?

Oh, she's only 4! I don't want her opening the door. (And she can't quite do it by herself anyway!)

Most of the time i am out. I do not want to waste my time talking to them and miss seeing my favorite TV show. One time i asked my little nieces aged 4 each to tell anyone who asks for me that i am out. They were so agressive telling this lady that i am out which made it very obvious to her that i am actually in and to think that they were so proud to tell me that they did what i asked them to.

LOL. You were lucky that the child welfare people didn't come by to find out why those little girls were all alone!

We are lucky to have a DVR on our tv, so I'd record the show and answer the door. Short of being an emergency, it would be a record-breaking short visit with who ever was there though, well....unless it was you bringing cookies. What would REALLY irritate me would be if some one called to talk about the show after air-time when I hadn't even seen it yet.

Don't you just hate that?? I do..but I am always in..I guess they rerun stuff on television so much I would see it again soon..I guess it would be one reason to have a DVR or a VHS to record it so nothing is missed..

In, because it's probably one of the girls or a neighbour who need me for something. Can't be bothered with telly any more anyway, it's either rubbish or interrupted.

Oh Pike I feel your frustration. I watch very very little tv. There is this one show that I watch...ok I will admit it is a soap. I got hooked while taking care of my mom in the last year of her life. I don't watch it every day and especially if there is something more important that needs to be done. I do follow it tho. My girls all know this. This is the time I take my lunch break and sit and eat and watch my show. I have one daughter that can have been around me all day and done her own thing and we've barely spoken. But I swear the minute i sit down to watch my show that is when she has to tell me all her stories. If I ask her to wait until a commercial, she'll go into a spiel about how dumb my show is etc etc. so I miss most of it anyway.

I'm out! And I have no problem with ignoring the door. Or the phone. And now, it's almost time for my soap. So don't think you can just barge in and interrupt me, mister! xxx

Fortunately I can just pause the program, answer the door then, go back to whatever I am watching. More often than not though, it is someone in the household bothering me, not someone at the door.

OUT without a shadow of a doubt. It's very bad mannered of anyone to turn up without telephoning first, they might catch me on a bad hair day or something. Unless there's someone come to fix something later than they said they can go away.

I too have a DVR..I just hit record if the door is friend or family..and the pause button in the event my company won't be staying. If it's late enough at night most people won't knock, I tend to be one of those people that like to watch TV in the dark..I've been told a couple of times that friends didn't stop in because they thought I wasn't home or already in bed because my house appeared dark.

I ignore them!!!! Fortunately I live in an apartment building where they have to buzz me from the lobby, so no one can tell if I'm home or not, if I choose not to answer the door. And if they get in and just knock on my door, that means someone left the lobby door open, and there goes my securty system. When someone just knocks without buzzing in, I never EVER answer, even if they can hear that I'm in. It's an invasion of privacy.

Does your security phone had a camera too. They are very useful for ignoring people.

Good question p1ke-normally even though my programme is on and I am interrupted I hate ignoring anyone so would answer the door, anyway the dogs wouldn't stop barking unless I did,so it is a no win situation, normally though my programmes get repeated and then nothing will stop me watching it! hugs LoLo

I have to be totally honest, I probably would not answer. Sometimes, you just need some time alone. They can come back after it's over if it's that important.
