Dear friends, now a days I am reading and watching a lot about meditation. Meditation seems to be solution to many problems, but no matter how much I try , I just cannot do it. Those who teach meditation say, concentrate on your breathing, I cannot do that, they say look at your inner-self.....I search a lot but could not find any inner self....., Can someone really teach me how to meditate.

Hi Apsara
i wont say its mrditation but for me its way to relax
just calm down and relax
the best way i know is that when u r in such start
just sit back in chair
relax
close ur eyes
try to blank ur mind as much as u can, free of thoughts
and after few minutes u will feel relaxed
and sure further stages are with patience and practice
Take care

yeah and he will go home and find every thing ready, food on the table, clothes washed and ironed in the cupboard, children happy, home-work done, and finally beds ready... all that he will do is to spoil the well set bed.......ha ha ha....I think men don't need meditation at all.......they are getting enough relaxation

Hi apsara, I am here because of you and babyface. Meditation is a personal experience. Therefore, the point where I feel at peace will differ from where you feel at peace. That is the reason you may not find it with every guru. The first thing as a few before me mentioned, forget that you are meditating. And don't think you've to sit in specific posture, and close your eyes, and stuff like that. Nor is it anything related to so many minutes or hours! You can meditate even for a few seconds! Even looking at trees, and birds flying or sun setting is a form of meditation. The object of meditation is to take your mind away from the present issues that are causing a traffic jam in your mind. Once the traffic is resolved, you can resume your journey. So dont think you need to think of anything specific or not think of anything specific. My way of meditating is looking at the trees. It really relaxes me and takes away my mind from what I have on hand. Second way I do is sit in a specific posture take in air - can you feel the cold air touching that upper part of your nostrils, and the lungs expanding like a balloon. Well release it slowly trying to understand which places of your body that air is moving to. Do it more than once in a day, and check whether or not you felt better before and after this effort. If you do, you know what meditation is all about. Thereafter, you can increase the times, if you feel the need for it. Of course, level of satisfaction differs from person to person. And then again, there will be moments when you just break down, before you turn towards meditation to bring you that inner peace.

Hello vandana....thanks for your reply. First of all it is my request that you should stop calling deepak as baby face as he may not like it always. He is a very old and good friend of ours and anything that will hurt him will hurt all his friends. Yeah if he has no problem, then we have no problem..
I did read your reply carefully and I will remember it. But as our ancestors say, to free your mind from disturbance, first fulfil your duties and I think I still have some years till I will really be free from my responsibilities and then seriously concentrate on meditation. Have a nice day.

Hello Vandana...I like your reply....I have always considered meditation as wearing those special clothes and sittng cross legged in a special room and meditating for long strtches of time under the directions of a guru...But you are absolutely right...even looking out of the window at the distant greenary and taking in deep breaths and closing your eyes to all problems that come to your mind is also a form of meditation/relaxation ,and I do that often...And sure it does give me some inner peace and relaxes me.....

Meditation means to have one singe thought in a mind. In this you have focus on one thing too much without any worry and stress. Meditation makes mind so calm and relaxed. I think for students meditation is vital for their studies as it improves concentration power. In my view oyu need a good meditation guru to help you out.

When I started meditating I used to keep thinking about my favorite chicken dish and honestly after some time my mind would just relax and think nothing in particular..Now I can concentrate and meditate for an hour and a half at a stretch almost with out breaking into stressful thoughts or letting my mind wonder...The first thing to learn to meditating is to not take it as a serious job and just letting your mind relax..

Hi Aps dear....ha..ha... meditation is not meant for people like us who have so much responsibilties and so much roles to play in life.Very often we have to resort to multitasking, so that our lives and that of oue family and for working women, their jobs all run smoothly and without any hitches. This is no mean task.
And if we decide to meditate now ,which demands that we concentrate on one thing at a time then there will surely be mayhem in our whole world and those of our dependents...Juts iamgine dear what will happen if we sit to meditate even for an hour....who will deal with the clothes in the washing machine, the food cooking on the gas stove, hubby will end up searching for things in wrong places and messing up everything, kids will forget to lock the front door, turn off the pcs ,TV etc after use,go out for an outing wearing the wrong kind of clothes.......etc..etc...
So let us leave the meditation part to people who can afford to denounce everything, forget their family and search for their inner self(come to think of it...Do I have an inner self....no I have pics of so many loved ones etched in there....and to tear all that away to see the real me doesnt appeal to me..)..So dear I am not keen on meditation either and neither should you be.....

Hi Rose!
Honestly speaking, I read your reply, after submitting mine and you and I said more or less the same things. It means we are alike.

Hi aps ...You know what's wrong with you..You always let your emotions rule your life, and not your brains.....
Any way we will go to the Himalayas one day, when our children are settled in life, and our responsiblities are over, and meditate in peace ,with not a care in the world......And oh yes we will take our own precious bath towel with us.....which we will need after bathing in the holy Ganges......

You've got some serious soul searching to do if you can't find your innerself. Meditation is merely an excercise that promotes healthy and intuitve thoughts. You can do it while doing your every day things it helps you to not get as stressed out.
It definitely helps you too reach a zen state.
The more you practice meditation the more you will get out of it. Just don't laugh at people making claims about spiritual experiences because we all have a spiritual power within all of us. Whether we choose to accept it or not.

You are trying too hard for starters and getting ahead of yourself...Start out by simply sitting in silence and letting your mind go to wherever it needs to which could be nowhere.... OR Start by sitting comfortably and just acknowledging your surroundings..like FEEL the clothes on your skin...FEEL the carpet or floor under your feet and pay attention to what it feels like..LISTEN to all the sounds you can hear..your breathing, cars driving by, a ceiling fan etc etc..

I really don't have an idea, since i haven't tried it. Maybe you are not ready as of now to do it. what my little idea is in order to Medidate, you have to go to a very silent place and think nothing. You just make your mind clear of thinking everything, especially with nature. for the words itself, it is like cleansing your mind. My advice, if you have fields there, go there on the center, sit there and think nothing. Close your eyes and feel the air, and then relax.

How are you dear grecy.....nice to see you. well......grecy, how can the choice of place help anybody to meditate when mind is always stuck at same fixed point. For me meditation seems to be something impossibe.....and I blame only myself for that... have a great day.

Hi, it's the same with me. I remember attending my first yoga class, and trying to follow the instructions given - to meditate. Within 5 minutes, my mind was wandering - thinking about food, going home, shopping and so on. After a few sessions, I gave up!

I think its about finding inner peace in self.. The better way to do it is to be alone and finding your worth out of deciding to be alone..

Yeah i know what u mean.It all looks ok when u read about it in or when u see those people in their yoga posture.
It takes a lot of concentrations and patience too.
It was quite hard for me later to allot a regular time due to my busy schedule.
You can buy cd or watch youtube videos,im sure there are tutorial videos there that can guide you.
Im gonna check it out too.

It is hard especially if you don't have peace of mind.. Better go to a place which is close to nature.. A place where you'll heard nothing but the voices of the birds singing and the wind splashing to the leaves of the trees.. Wew! could you imagine that scene? You can meditate and look at your inner self that easy if you are in that kind of place.. Well that only my opinion..:-)
