Guest Hosts on RAW, What's Your Opinion?

Personally, I cannot stand all of this guest host nonsense that is happening lately. It is, in my opinion, making a mockery of WWE's flagship show. Allow me to vent a brief rant...
I know that it is important for WWE to market themselves and to appeal to a wider audience, so they use this guest host gimmick to attract viewers who may be a fan of such guest host, resulting in them tuning in to RAW and boosting ratings. However, for actual fans of WWE, it is dreadful. It is obvious that barely any of these hosts (with the odd exception) have no interest in WWE and are only there to market themselves and earn another pay-check. Because of this, I find their acting (yes, I know it's all fake, but one can pretend) is almost always terrible, either over-the-top and really corny or with an air of "can't be bothered, so I will just put in a passable performance". Furthermore, these guest hosts are nothing but "puppets" for WWE creative. I would be more tolerant of them if they were allowed to express their OWN ideas, maybe ones that are relevant to current storylines and feuds, rather than following it off a script.
I would much rather see a PROPER host assigned to RAW, similar to Eric Bischoff. Maybe then we can expect a better product (although, given WWE's current state, I wouldn't hold my breath)
This is my personal opinion, and I know some fans DO enjoy these guest host segments. What I want to hear is your opinions and views on this matter...

To be honest, it was my younger brother who got me back into watching it. I remember being obsessed as a kid (who wasn't, it was the norm back then), and cheering on Steve Austin, The Rock and the psychotic Mankind during the attitude era. Though it isn't nowhere near as good, partly because of nostalgia, partly to tv-pg, I find it a good source of entertainment, even if I don't tell everybody that.

The guest host thing is a good idea in theory but it has fallen so flat, so many times, that it just does not work out. There are not enough quality guest hosts out there to do it as a weekly thing. Maybe once a month, there could be a guest host. And it would have to be someone connected to wrestling. Like a Stone Cold Steve Austin or a Dusty Rhodes or whoever. Its just a bunch of celebrities who go on the show and promote themselves. Often times not knowing the names of the wrestlers. Poor Kofi Kingston's name has been mangled by quite a few guest hosts. And need I mention "The Summerfest". So get someone on there who is at least going to do a little homework regarding the show they are on, if they do.
I do miss the days where there was just one person in charge of RAW too. Eric Bischoff was the obvious one. William Regal was fun as well at times. The reason why Smackdown is so good, is because they do not bother with this guest host nonsense. They focus on the wrestling, the competition in the ring. If I wanted to watch these celebrities, I would watch the stuff that they are involved in. I doubt I'm alone in saying that I watch wrestling for the wrestling and the storylines involved that ties into it. Not poorly scripted comedy from a bunch of people who can barely bother to remember the name's of the wrestlers half of the time. Or the second biggest Pay Per View of the year.

I agree with you about SmackDown being good in regards to them having a proper GM. I miss Eric Bischoff being in charge of RAW, and regularly upsetting his roster
And yes, I'm so glad you mentioned about the guests forgetting names and such. Poor Kofi has had his name ruined so many times, and who can forget "SummerFest"

I haven't watched WWE in awhile but I agree with you. It would be one thing if the guest hosts were really fans of the show. I'm sure there are some celebrities out there that really like watching WWE. If they were to host I'm sure they would put in a good effort to make the show more realistic. You are right about their acting too. True all of it is scripted, but they make it look real.

Yes, there are some celebrities who are genuine fans, and like I said earlier, it shines through in their performance. If McMahon carries on with guest hosts, I would be more tolerant if they actually had a passion for wrestling in general, rather than putting in an appearance for marketing and more money into their bank accounts

First off, love the pen name, request me Mrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Kennedy Kennedy as a friend when you get a chance. I love the WWE but I'm with you on the "guest" host crap. I haven't watched it for a few weeks and when I saw they had Timbaland I didn't even bother. I know that the WWE has to expand their audience but they are shrinking it with all these stupid guest hosts. Let some of the wrestlers of old come back and guest host, Jesse The Body Ventura was alright but he was plugging his show. Let The Rock or Stone Cold guest host or even Goldberg, Eric Bishoff would be good or even Paul Heyman. Can we please get some people who know what the heck a snap mare is to come in and steal the show and create some competition for the fans. I'm not a fair weather one but its been cloudy for a long time.

Congratulations sir, you are the first ever person to spot the reference in my username.
Anyway, I agree completely with you. If Vince wants to continue this guest host business, at least bring in figures who are relevant to wrestling and have featured in the industry, rather than "flavour of the month" who would think that a Pedigree is a thorough-bred dog or don't know their Diamond Cutters from their Rock Bottom's

i think this concept is just pathetic, most of the time guest hosts do not have a lot of ideas about what is going on. i don't watch raw anymore, i think this guest host concept needs to be stopped. go back to good old general manager concept.
