No sound!!

I've already checked to see if its muted, the process was turned on, everything looks good. It seems like the driver for my sound card got deleted and every time i try to download a new one my computer crashes. I've tried installing a new one and it doesn't work either. When i go to my sound options it says my output device is modem #0 playback or something like that. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
