Does You Cat Like Having Its Belly Tickled?

All cats are different, just like us humans. Some cats love being tickled, others aren't so keen. My own cat, Flojo loves her back and that bit between her shoulder blades tickled but go anywhere near her belly and the claws come out. My husband seems to think he can "train" her but she has other ideas haha! As for Mum's cats, well you can tickle them all over their bodies, it seems to me, including their bellies. Ellie (the Mum) will let me tickle her belly all day, every day if I wanted to. Her daughter Soxx gets a bit bored after a while but she's the same, loves her belly being tickled. They also love the Shiny Boy Brush yes, I know I'm saying "Shiny Boy" but it sounds better, trust me lol. If we call out "Show Me Where The Shiny Boy Brush Is!" Ellie will run over to the "Shiny Boy Drawer" and sit there miaowing until the Shiny Boy Brush is taken out. Then she runs over to the extension and gets into her "Shiny Boy Position" then I can give her Shiny Boy, hehe lol. She even likes her belly brushed! Amazing! They purr like mad too. Very cute!

One of ours likes just about anything and pretty much just lets you do whatever you want to her. She doesn't really know how to bite, the best she does is to kinda get your hand in her mouth. The other one is not as tolerant. She does like having her belly rubbed, or 'wriggled', but she has to be able to brace her back feet against something - the wall, your leg, the carpet etc. As long as her feet are planted on something and pushing against it she loves tummy rubs but if they aren't she will brutally attack, kicking with her back feet and biting like crazy. She loves being brushed but draws the line at her belly, lol.

Oh, they definitely have their own personalities. Our one kitty will actually pick her teeth with the claws on her back feet. It is the grossest noise, she wedges her claw right in there and kicks out, you can here her doing it all the way across the room.

Wow, how unusual! Aren't moggies funny lol. They do have some strange quirks don't they? Flojo will practically eat her paw instead of pulling the claws out with her teeth...and we know when she's doing it because we can hear this horrible crunching sound. Very strange! She does the same with her bites too...but she does that with her Daddy, never with me.

I have had 4 cats over the last 16 years, sadly they have all gone to cat heaven and now am starting off again with two beautiful singapuras. All my cats have eventually loved having their bellies tickled. It doesn't always come naturally to them as I believe they offer their bellies to look at as a sign of trust but actually to touch them there is just a bit too vulnerable for them. What I do, right from day one, is hold them belly up, like a baby in my arm and gently stroke them on their bellies. If they complain, or start with the claws I tell them a very firm 'no', stop for a few seconds holding my hand very still (do not withdraw or the kitten will think that his behaviour achieves what he wants), and then gently start to stroke again. After a few weeks of this, you can progress to more of a tickle but remember little kittens have very delicate bellies and if you are tough rough you will get what you deserve!

Only my older dog is crazy about her belly tickled. She loves it. My second dog likes to be pet on her head, not on her belly. Cat likes everything as long as I have time to pet her....including brushing... Older dog hates brushing and she shows me that she is very mad...

I like the fact you have dogs and a cat. Our cat would be terrified if we had a dog but, to be honest, we don't have the room anyway. FloJo enjoys being Top Cat! Recently, we got her a brush (not a posh Denman brush like Mum's cats have) but it was from Pets At Home so it's a good one. At first, I think the sound of the brushing bothered her but she is becoming more used to it. You can tell she spends most of her time indoors as her white fur blinds you, it's that clean lol. She has black fur as well but predominantly white. Very cute!

One out of my five cats just loves it, she flops around and makes you get both sides of her belly, then she will grab your hand and give it a kiss. It's too sweet!

Hello Janey Through the years, I've had a number of cats and dogs. Without fail, each of the doggies loved to have their bellies scratched, but only two of the kitties liked that. The rest loved being pet, as yours does, but NOT on the belly. They hated that lol. Karen

Hi there! Thank for your response. I keep telling hubby that FloJo doesn't like her belly being tickled but he still tries it anyway (MEN) lol. I believe the belly area on a cat is quite sensitive (I'm sure a vet once told me that) but Mum's cats are more rotund, especially Ellie, so they absolutely love their bellies tickled.

one of my cats hates being belly tickled. she'll go crazy and start scratching and attacking my hand. my other cat doesn't seem to care that much. he doesn't like moving...so even if he doesn't like it, he won't move away..but sometimes it's fun to just push him to roll over on the floor to see his fat belly =P

Awww Ellie is a bit like that. Sometimes, when she is on her back it takes her a while to get back up again because of her stubby, cute little legs (rather like a tortoise lol). She does move, however, and she's definitely more active in the summertime. Even her more active daughter, Ellie is quieter at this time of year. Thanks for posting!

All three of my cats love to be tickled. My cat Blackee loves it between her ears the most. She rubs her head against you when she wants it done. My cat Smyles loves it under his chin. My cat Kali loves it when we tickle her between the ears and under the chin. My cat Smyles loves attention the most. Whenever our friend comes over Smyles jumps in his lap and Smyles tells our friend when it is ok to put him down. I love cats and all three of mine have different personalities.
