"The President's On TV. He's On Every Channel. We're Gonna Miss Fliiiiipperr!!"

Flipping through the TV channels tonight, and finding President Obama and his State Of The Union Address on every freaking American TV channel, and on a few Canadian ones too, this line popped into my head and made me laugh. Why is it, when the President's on TV, he takes over almost every channel, even in these days of cable, with it's hundreds and hundreds of channels? LOL Did anyone else miss a lot of TV shows tonight because of President Obama's speech? Did anyone else think of this particular line, when they discovered Obama's take-over of the night's TV lineup?

LOL! I'm actually old enough to remember watching Flipper on TV... Well, the U.S. Pres. *is* the leader of the free world, so there's a lot of interest in the speech. Since there are so many TV channels now, it's easier for the networks to run their programming somewhere so that fans can catch an episode that was pre-empted by the State of the Union, not to mention the fact that people can watch many shows online now. Back in the days of Flipper, you only had three networks, a few UHF channels, and no cable or Internet or DVRs. Those were hard times, LOL!

In India, on the eve of National festivals like Independence Day and Republic Day, President gives a speech. This is telecast by all the channels. So same is the case in our country too.

I do not watch a lot of television. I did get to see them jumping up and down for standing ovation type things.

i think it may be some kind of broadcast law.they have to yield to national broadcasts.at least there are a few that don't have to.back in the days before cable,it was shear hell when president carter had something to say. we only got 4 channels, and he talked in circles for at least 4 hours.

We came home from choir practice...I turned on the tv to find something to watch. I am so out of politics that I didn't even know he was going to be on....and no, I didn't listen to him. Figure I will read plenty of opinions about what he had to say on our other website.....which I am upset is doing upgrades again when I have to much to do! Marsha

I know what you mean GRRRR!!!! I know that the president is a big deal and we should watch what he has to say but like you said why does he have to be on every channel? There should be two major channels at the most and if you are one that is interested in hearing what he has to say then you can turn it to those channels. Another thing that bothers me total off the subject of the president but keeping with television is when they are showing football games and they have the same team playing on like three different channels I mean come on there are 32 teams which more than likely always means 16 games a week(unless it is a be week) and you feel it necessary to show three or four of the same games???? GRRRR!!!

I know what you mean. I tried to watch a little of what he had to say but after awhile I was ready to watch something else. There weren't a lot of channels to watch though. Like you said he was on most of the channels.

I missed the first 1/2 hour as I was watching movie. I did watch the rest of it and all I can say is that again he shows he can talk the talk (as usual) but can he walk the walk ( has not done it yet in the past year)!

I used to have that very same Jeff Foxworthy CD. "You might be a redneck if..." lol. I used to wonder why the President had to take over EVERY channel when he had an address. But I know now that I'm older that not every person gets every channel, and it would kinda suck if someone wanted to watch it, yet it was on a channel they didn't get. I used to think that a lot in years past, but (and I know I am going to get it for saying this outloud), Obama is the first president in my lifetime where I am actually interested in hearing what he has to say. So I was fine with missing my regular shows the other night; Obama had a lot of good news for me.

I think that he is an excellent speaker and communicator ,and everybody wants to know what is going on with the economy ,and what new plans he has in mind.

I dont' watch much and didn't that night, but I did on one night recently and every local channel had the same fund raiser with singers on it raising money for Haiti. Every single channel! I'm sorry that happened to the country, but I am sick and tired of no other country ever helping the US, but the US is the first and often the only one to run immediately to the rescue of every county that cries. No one helped Katrina and that area is still so messed up and destroyed... that $100 milllion dollars the president sent to Haiti would have done wonders to New Orleans and related areas... but for some odd reason, it wasn't available to the Katrina victims that are still homeless and without most everything. But amazingly enough it was right there ready to go to another country.
