If you were a cactus, would you rather have beautiful leaves than thorns?

I just remembered a question asked by my professor in philosophy...
Most of the cacti in the world silently but solidly endeavors to grow in the emptiest deserts. More to this, they are viewed at times to be unpleasant as they live with thorns and never with leaves. But if you were a cactus, WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE LEAVES THAN THORNS to get rid of the unpleasantness? Why or Why not?

I would rather be a cactus with leaves. With this, when I grow older and my leaves will fall, I can reach as far as other places because the good wind will surely lead me anywhere. After that, I will become part of the land in the service of humanity, I can be a fertilizer or simply a soil both useful for men. Without any thorn, people will find me friendly and harmless and they may bring me in their homes out from the hot desert. I will be under the care of water, and bit of sunlight.

If unlucky, I was born as a cactus.
For me,a cactus,an unable-escape plant, live in the emptiest deserts with some unpredictable unpleasantness.
I wish I can have not only thorns but also solid armor.
haha....
