To snack or not to snack?

Yes, yes, I heard all about the "do-not-snack" theories, and I agree that those extra junk is not needed by our bodies after having nice proper square meals.
But what about if a person does not eat proper meals and instead snack on cookies, biscuits and candy, for whatever reason? I guess we can call that meals too since he/she don't eat much proper foods.
So far I have seen 2 such persons, and they are thin as rails. Which baffles me, here we are eating proper meals and avoiding snacking and we are in the "exercise or be fat" category. Kinda defeats the purpose of being good, doesn't it?

Snacking is not bad it is what you snack on that is the problem.
Sometimes thin people who snack on "bad foods" have faster metabolism.
Also there are thin people who are what they call skinny fat people, who carry so visible signs of being fat on their bodies but they are fat on the inside - having alot of fat around their arteries.
So the way you look is not really an indicator, I think snacking is an important part of having a well balanced lifestyle.
I have breakfast, lunch and dinner and at least two snacks inbetween but I try to make sure they are healthy sometimes it is chocolate but on the whole I try to eat fruit, low fat yoghurt (with no sugar) or nuts or sometimes if I have really hungry I will have cereal. But it is also the size of the meals that count.
So I believe in snacking as well as having main meals.

also it is the size of the meals that are important often we eat more than we should at each meal.

well, not because they are thin means they are healthy, they are as equally unhealthy compared to moderately fat people, but i f i were to choose what kind of unhealthy category io would belong, i choose being thin cuz that way i can eat any snack i want haha

Hi, no offense to your thin friends, but I think that eating snacks without eating proper meals would definitely make them thin but not for the good reasons, because of malnourishment. I believe in snacking, but you have to eat the right kinds of snacks, the healthy ones. I think that if you don't snack, when its time to eat a meal, you will be feeling quite hungry and will have the tendency to eat more during meal times.

It all depends on a type of person. All people (including me) don't get fat when eating lots of snacks. Still, I think that it's vital to eat full meals too, as snacks can't replace a real strong meal. I always have a full meal three times and sometimes I also have some kind of snack in between of these meals.

I think snacks are great way to avoid overeating.for snacks,it's better to have fruits or cereals.aside from being healthy, you can snack without guilt.snacks help make us feel fuller and eat lesser during main meals.as long as the snack is healthy,I don't see anything wrong with it.

Hi catmint,
I'd rather have small but frequent meals. There is nothing wrong with snacking if you have the right kind of snack. A slice of pineapple would be great. It contains the enzyme bromelain that breaks down fats. Banana, mango, carrots, celery are great snacks, too.
A small nutritionally balanced meal is better than 3 large ones.
Yes, some people can eat as much as they want and remain thin, while others don't eat much, yet have a hard time maintaining a proper weight. We are different and we have diffeent metabolic rates. On this aspect, we can say, "some guys have all the luck." But, let's not worry because we are lucky in other ways as well. We all have our share of ups and downs.
