I was at this canteen buying food when the lady who was taking money was the same one handing out the food. Now on the island ,a food handlers permit is a license to say that you are "clean" in terms of NOT having diseases and you are certified in certain safe food practices.
I must have had a frown on my face because she responded "Everyone in this canteen has a food handlers permit ".I guess she was saying this to allay my fears with regard to picking up germs.
Now what would you do if you were in my situation ? I mean the risk was minimal of getting germs but I didnt like the idea of she handling money and teh food?

I don't blame you for your reservations about eating in this place! While I know that this is common practice in many eating establishments, I think that it is a bad idea. Money is full of germs!! Unless the food handler is adequately washing hands between handling money and handling food, I do not think that I would want to eat at that place. I may even file a complaint with the food handlers permit officials.

Then she shouldn't be handling food, and people shouldn't be eating there if she is not practicing safe personal hygiene.

Hello my friend ronnyb Ji,
Well , while in US, came across, people using Aprons and usable gloves while handling food items. But I think, authenticity must be checked, as germsmay find ways through currency as well.
May God bless You and have a great time.

Well I hope she washes her hands before she does either job, I know that you can't really get germs that way, but have you ever wondered where the money's been thats in our pockets? I don't think money is exactly germ free either.

I would suggest not going there if you are too concerned about it. When i buy grocery to take home i wash and wipe everything before putting away anything. I usually carry a lunch rather than buying outside. Things i make at home i know what the ingredience are.

I’ve seen people handle money and placing surgical gloves on when handling food which is great but so many don’t bother and it is rather revolting when you think about how many germs would be on notes and coins! I realise we probably wouldn’t all get terribly sick from it but it isn’t right and if you deal with food you should respect health regulations and stop the practice of handling food and money at the same time. I would have questioned the woman in the canteen about it…They should not be doing that...

Everywhere that I've been, the only food that I ever see the cashier's handling is the food that has already been wrapped. I never see the cashiers handle the food as it is being prepared. If I was to ever see something like that happen, I don't think that I would be able to eat the food because money is so incredibly dirty. Now, I don't think that having a food handler's permit means that the person can't get germs, I think that it means that they have been trained in sanitary practices and they should be expected to follow those practices.

I would be very, very upset and we know money is crawling with germs. I think that it would cause big trouble in the U.S. if this was to happen.

I really don't think food handlers anywhere are as clean as they should be. My bigmama use to work in restaurants & she always said if people could see the nasty kitchens noone would eat there. just because someone has a license doesn't make them clean. I would have been just like u. They say money is one of the dirtiest things that there is.

Unless her hands were filthy, I probably wouldn't give it a second thought.
Changing the subject, you said, "I mean the risk was minimal of getting germs but I didnt like the idea of she handling money and teh food?" "Of," is a preposition and takes the objective pronoun, not the nominative pronoun. It should be, "I didn't like the idea of HER handling money and the food."
