Do You Read. . .

Do you read anything when you are in the bathroom? LOL. As for me, I have always been one to read when I was in the bathroom. In my mother's house there were always magazines in the bathroom and I would just pick up whatever was handy at the moment to read while I was in there. Now that we are in our own house, I will take the book that I am reading at the current time in there with me. So, do you read when you are in the bathroom or do you prefer to do your business as quick as possible and then get out of there.

No because i don't have anything to read xD, i don't want to read my novel/magazine because they are old and i read so many times! When i'm in my bathroom, i just relax myself and close my eyes, i do a meditation xD.

I do a lot of reading while laying in the tub. That is the one true sanctuary that I've got.

Do you think that you would read in the bathroom if you had fresh reading material? Just curious.

I read in the bathroom and so does my husband. There are books in our bathroom and after we paint the bathroom I am thinking about putting a single shelf in the bathroom to keep our books in. Right now they are on the counter taking up space. I love to read.

My current bookshelf in the bathroom is the back of the toilet. We haven't put up any shelves in there yet, but I'm thinking that we need to have two of them. One for my reading material and the other to keep the clean towels in the bathroom.

There is nothing quite like that little built in shelf that every bathroom has.

I actually make an effort to keep our bathroom clean so that I can feel comfortable reading in there. Funny I know, but it is just a habit that I have carried since childhood.

Only when I have a book I can't put down or don't want to put down. I don't have a stack of magazines or anything sitting in the bathroom waiting to be read.

We don't do the stack of magazines in the bathroom now that we are in our own house, that was something that was done in my mother's house. In our house, I just carry my book with me.

Our bathroom is completely custom, so it is a very comfortable situation for me. I love the colors and the decor that we've used in our bathroom.

No, I don't bother to bring stuff to read when I am in the bathroom. It doesn't take me a long time to do my business in the bathroom anyway. I am in and out within a few minutes. But I can understand why people would want to read in the bathroom so they can get their mind off of doing it.

For me it isn't so much about getting my mind off of doing my business it is more of a getting my mind off of the rest of the world that I read in the bathroom.

When I was a kid growing up on the farm in the 40's we had a nice old John out behind the house. There was always an Eatons Catalog (from last year) hanging on a nail by the seat. I liked to tear a page off (before I needed it) so I could look at the pictures and see what everything cost. As time went by we got electricity, and soon we had a bathroom, but the Catalog stayed on the nail, and I still enjoy tearing a page off early, so I can look at the pictures and see what things cost.

That's pretty funny. I have heard about how my mother used to have to use an outhouse when she went to visit her grandfather while growing up and she said that she knew prices very well based on what she was able to learn from the paper catalog.

No, I dont do that and I dont really understand why people do that. My dad and brother will bring newspaper with them to the bathroom and stay there for hours. I only find that annoying lol

My husband finds it to be annoying as well. He is in and out of the bathroom in just a couple of minutes. I take a lot longer than him. I think that part of the reason for that though is the fact that it is my sanctuary. It is the only place that I can be in the house where I can have five minutes of peace and quiet.

Hi Dorannmwin! Well I am the type of person who likes to take something in there to read or a crossword to do from time to time. I suppose it depends on whether I am at work, or if I can afford to, or want to take the time to read something. Now that my husband and I live with his GG it's a bit quieter!

That is another thing that is funny to think about. When I worked at the hospital there was one of the girls that I worked with that always took the newspaper into the bathroom with her and she would turn off her pager as well. She was a nurse but I guess she needed her down time while at work.

No, I usually don't. My husband likes to bring something in with him, a magazine or newspaper or whatever is lying around. The only time I'll ever read while I'm in there is if he's left something there from the last time he was using the bathroom.

So you do read in the bathroom but you don't have to have reading material in there to be able to do your business. It is funny that you do it like that.

I got the habit from my father. I remember he always had whatever book he was reading in the bathroom. My mother is not really much of a reader and thus both my brother and my sister aren't huge readers, but I'm an avid reader.

My husband laughs at me for rushing into the bedroom to grab my book when I feel like I've got to go. I guess it really is a funny site but I've never taken the time to think about it.

Ha ha! Me, I have to deal with 2 little ones, so I'm in and out of the bathroom as soon as I can! BUT my daughter has gotten in the habit of reading when going to the potty (#2, that is). She'll run to her room and grab a book . . . then go to the toilet and sit there to read. It's not til AFTER she finishes that she does her thing - ha ha.

I guess your daughter feels like she needs some private time away from you and from her brother. Too funny that she will wait until after she has read to do her thing.

I think that there are more people that do this than I might have thought. I personally can't concentrate if I don't have something to keep my mind off of things.

i would rather get in and get out but we do have reading material in the bathroom as my hubby likes to read while he is in there. i like to multi task so if i am in there for a long period of time, i will read but take it with me.

Now that you mention it, it probably is my multitasking habit that makes me read while I am in the bathroom. It is very rare for me to only be doing one thing at a time.

As for the business in the bathroom, if I'm one-ing it, I don't read. Two-ing, uh huh. I also have several magazines in there, like your Mom did lol. Karen

I don't think that it is ever necessary to have any reading material when you are one-ing I always use the material for the two-ing.

I think that the bathroom wasn't intended for reading originally but for me, it is the only place that I am able to have some time that is just my time and that is the reason that I choose to read in the bathroom.

I read all of the time. Yet the only time that I seem to read magazines are in the bathroom! I don't know why this is. Maybe it's because their light in weight and a light read; quick and easy. Rolling Stone seems to be my favorite bathroom literature(:

Magazines I think are perfect for the bathroom because the articles are short and you don't accidentally find yourself spending hours in there.
