When you cook with aluminum foil, do you put the shiny or the dull side outward? Is it better to use one side than the other?

I think the shiny side reflects the heat, so I put it toward the food. I don't know if it really matters that much, though. If there is a difference, it has to be very small.

Interesting link! I guess I won't worry about which side is inside. :)

I decided to look it up and found this site about it. I don't think it makes much difference either. http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/gen01/gen01407.htm

Hi, clrumfelt. I never knew that there was a preference to using aluminum foil by the side that it should be on. It all looked the same to me. I know that I will just put the shiny part outward and the dull part inward.. I hope that I have not been doing this the wrong way.

Probably it doesn't make much difference. I always wondered if someone had an explanation as to why one side is dull and one is shiny.

That's a good question lol, and one that I've often wondered myself. Personally, I put the shiny part towards the food. I don't know if that really matters or not, but my thinking is that the shiny side would reflect more heat back towards the cooking food.

That's a good theory.

To be honest I really don't pay attention to which way I put the foil on, and I don't think it really matters.

Haha! That is a really funny question, but a good one...lol. I don't think it has any barrings on how the finished product will turn out. I usually just tare it and set it I don't really care what side its on. Both ways seem to do about the same job...

Just something I had always wondered about.
