Do You Phone Your Cat?

When you travel, do you phone to talk to your cat? I adore my tabby, Cleopatra, but I never thought of talking to my cat when I'm away from home. However, I saw a discussion on a cat list I belong to and was surprised to find that it's not unusual for cat owners to do just that. I can't imagine my sweetie pie standing still long enough to even let me finish saying "hello". So, do you? Should I?

WOW! This is too funny! I don't call my cat when away but I do call my yorkie dog if I have not been able to bring her with me. Her little tail will wag away at our voices! I always figure she is another one of my children and misses me too!

I don't go that far with my cat. I certainly talk to her at home, or when she is in the carrier on the way to the vet. Cats relate to human voices that they are familiar with and derive a certain amount of comfort from their owners voice. But if I tried to hold a phone to my cats ear, she would freak out.

Yeah, especially when i live to accompany my brother in his apartment and i always call or text my sister to feed my cat on time so that he would not get sick or become thin. i am just so happy they care him when I am not at the house. So when i comeback i was very please with the result and my cat still look healthy like it was before i left him to their care.

I don't travel much, but when I was younger I went to a two week summer camp. During that time I talked to my mom on the phone. When I did, she let me talk to the cats. They of course, according to her, seem uninterested. However, When George goes to the store, I'll have him call me. Or when he's on the way home from work. It lets me know he's okay for one thing and gives me a chance to speak up if there is something I need. Sometimes if I'm in the bedroom with Precious, He'll try and chew on the phone when I'm talking with someone he knows. He thinks people are literally trapped in there.

Well, i can't say that i haven't done it, but i usually do it when i have to travel across the country. I guess sometimes you get too attached to those little animals that you can't live without them. Some people think it's crazy but, i think they know how much we care for them.

The last dog I had lived 15 years, and we were best friends. When I went out in the morning I'd always ask him how he was, and did he have a good night? He had a particular way of wagging his tail, and I could understand what he was saying. After he passed over, I missed him for while, but then I found myself talking to him just as I had before. To my surprise, shortly after that he began to answer me. No matter what I ask he always has an answer for my question.

I don't call my cats, however we do joke about calling them. We don't have an answering machine to where they could hear us anyhow. I do miss them when I am gone, and it's what I look forward to when I have been gone on an overnight trip. Just getting home and seeing all my babies.

No, I have never thought about calling my cats when we travel. We have two of them, and they usually stay home by themselves. We have a friend that comes in to feed them and make sure all is well. My two boys would think I lost my mind if I told them I wanted to call home and talk to the cats.

I have heard the same thing that like 30% of pet owners do call their animals while away so they can hear their voice. I haven't ever done it and I'm not sure that I would. Here's why. My pack leader, Cleopatra,,,uh oh,,there's another queen cat with her name...adores my beloved and she's abit more his cat than mine. When he calls from out of town, she gets upset if she hears his voice. She'll look for him and then act out by jumping on the headboard and on top of the TV, both places she knows not to go. She also wail sometimes for him. I can tell she's confused and upset so it makes it hard on both of us. I don't really want to yell at her but that's the only way to get thru to her when she's really acting out. So now when he's away, I will go into the other room and talk to him. She stays calm that way and when he comes home, she's glued to his side for at least a few days. Something to think about, would it make your pet feel better or worse? Take care!!

Hallo....Friend..I never have a cat...I just have pet dogs. But I never do that when I travel to another country, I feel odd, a bit strange....but I understand how's the feeling, if you treat your pet as small kid, just like your own children...then you'll talk to them through phone...just let them hear your voice , just to comfort them when you are not around. So there's no harm talking to your cat, if the cat will stand still next to the phone to listen rather then run away....
