I am fond of horror movies. I love getting scared, LOL. I love the thrill and excitement that horror movies give. Unfortunately, a lot of horror movies have sick, predictable, and sometimes even boring plots. Those are the type which can make you say "Did I just waste 2 hours of my life on that?" I am thinking of a good horror film to watch today, so I want to hear your recommendations. Anything that's worth watching, ghosts or gore. Thanks!

I am a HUGE horror fan in fact horror flicks are my fave genre above all..There are some really good ones out there (even though horror movies today are NOT as scarey as they use to be sadly)
As it was mentioned Orphan is GREAT but more of a psychological thriller than a horror, still I highly recommend it..One of my FAVES as of late is Midnight Meat Train...Clive Barker story with Vinnie Jones in one of the lead roles (huge Vinnie fan LOL)..there is also
Halloween (Rob Zombie remake)
Halloween 2 (Rob Zombie as well)
Friday the 13th - remake
Last House on the left (remake)
Strangeland (starring Dee Snider of Twisted Sister)
May (not so much a horror as it is just a twisted movie LOL)
Ichi the Killer (japanese flick)
then of course you have the ones that you have probably seen like
Saw 1 - 6
Hostel 1 & 2
Mirrors
Chucky Movies
Nightmare on Elm Streets movies
and the list goes on...

I wonder how many Halloween franchises are there. And there's Halloween H2O. I think about ten? Same plot, same Mike Myers, same creepy mask. But he's really scary, especially when he still gets to catch his victims even when he's just walking while they're already running so fast. :-)
Thanks for the list. I'll check those out. Honestly, among the films you mentioned, I have only seen Mirrors and Chucky Movies. I'm not sure if I've already seen Elms Street. I think I already have but I was too young to remember.
Thanks again.

I think Exorcism of Emily Rose is pretty mind jolting.. as well as Poltergeist and etc. Those haunted house movies can be pretty scary..and especially Gory ones. Have you ever heard of Wrong Turn I and II? I watched both...those can be considered very horrific gory. But they are good in their own genre right. Not for the faint-hearts, for sure..it made me crumble. I was going through the line of can this be happening in real life a thousand times in my mind while watching how the victims were done for.

Oh yeah, The Exorcist was the real deal...big time.
Green slime? LOL.. you know what, reminds me of Scary movies antics and all...LOL.
I totally agree with you. Gory movies don't rock my world too, I much prefer watching a ghost story anytime. Especially when it comes to haunted houses and stuff like that. Anyway, what did you think of the movie Paranormal?

I wanna watch The Exorcist--I haven't watched the whole movie yet, haha. (I am left out...) Linda Blair looked really creepy in that. If I am an actress I'd love to portray something like that, with spinning heads, spider crawl, and upturned eyes. Hahaha. The sound effects was kinda weird though because it's old. LOL.
I have only seen the first 15 minutes of Paranormal Activity. I forgot how my viewing was interrupted. LOL. What do you think about it?

I've already seen Emily Rose, but it wasn't as scary as The Exorcist. Well possessed victims shouldn't look scary at all--real-life victims don't puke green slime. Haha.
I've only seen Wrong Turn 2, the Survivor Type of plot, where the first victim's body was slit halfway, LOL.
I prefer ghost movies, because too much gore makes me feel bad. I also think that way every time I watch them. I even imagine myself sometimes being the victim. :/
Thank you for responding. :D

I love a GOOD horror movie, one which has a good plot and not just gore for the sake of gore. I like when they take time to develop the characters and give us a REASON to care if they get chopped into pieces or not. That's been my problem with some of the horror movies in recent years that have been very popular with the very young; either they go directly into the slashing without even introducing the characters to the viewers or what little we see of them makes them so unlikable I find myself almost hoping for them to be tossed into a meat grinder...lol! Of course, on the other hand it's almost a requirement for there to be one character who's SO annoying and obnoxious that the entire audience cheers when he or she meets an unsavory end.
Among the horror films I'd recommend that I didn't see mentioned in this discussion are "The Reaping", "1408", "Stigmata", "Identity" and lots more I'm forgetting and anything by Stephen King.

I agree. Most gory films have predictable plots and bad acting. I get sick of those.
I've already seen The Reaping in Cinemax, with Hilary Swank in it. Honestly I didn't get the plot. Maybe I wasn't paying too much attention. :-)
I wanna see 1408. I love Samuel Jackson, hehehe. I'll check the other ones out.
Thank you very much for your recommendations.

Have to say for a good movie that I like is "Wrong Turn" if you haven't seen it then give it a shoot, if you don't like it please let me know, I thought it was an original movie. compare to a lot of the movies that are out there. also another movie that I like is "Funny Games" its not a horror movie, well could be a horror movie if you consider whats to be horror (horrifying), its a movie that will keep you guessing and hoping that's not really going to happen.

My all-time favorite is "The Shining". That scene with the kids chanting "redrum" scares the daylights out of me each and every time!

For me I love the cheesy "B" horror flicks. I love them because they make me laugh and they are so terrible that I just love them. I love all the Friday the 13th and have seen them all a million times. I have seen some of the best of the worst and that's what entertains me.

I think a really good and underrated movie would be "Pulse". I've recommended it a few times to a few people and they've all enjoyed it. It takes place in a college where people are...well it hard to explain. I think I'll give you a wrong idea if I try. You can look it up if you want. I saw someone had posted the whole movie on youtube. You can look it up if you like. Good to see another horror movie fan.

you must try to watch a Japanese horror movie called 'The Ring' .. but the Japanese version, no version of American ... this horror film is a very good, in my opinion .... you'll feel tension and fear from the beginning to the end of the movie ...

The last good horror movies I've seen would be A Tale of Two Sisters, Shutter, The Grudge and The Ring. I know they're probably old and you might have seen them already, but, there hasn't been a really good horror movie recently. Not in my opinion anyway. Unless you count Zombieland, which by the way, is a good funny movie that just happens to have Zombies.

I'm always on the lookout for a good horror or zombie movie, and it seems like my search never ends because I've yet to find one that is really really satisfying. I do however recommend seeing The Orphan. I'm not sure if the plot is predictable because I didn't try and figure it out as I watched it. I think it's definitely worth seeing at least once.
