science vs heart desires

Some people beliveve that university students should study science, other thinks that they should study what their heart desires. What is your opinion?

I think before we choose what we want to study in university, we should determine first what we want to be after we finished our study. Do we want to work as scientist, or to work in another desire job in the future? Because, what we study in university will be used in our future life to find a job.

I am a chinese, in china the education systerm is a serious demand systerm,
Under the examination oriented education, we students hardly have spare time to develop our specialized interests. And the major which we want to study in university always desided by the marks of College Enter Examination, most of time we do not have choise
