1) Revit Architecture
2) Autocadd
3) Google Sketch Up
4) 3D Max
5) Photoshop CS3
I know many are aware of the last one, because it is a universal software for any sort of work. But the previous three are known by only some, mostly those connected with the architecture or engineering field, also those on animation, regarding 3D Max.
I am cramming for my thesis now, so I started a discussion concerning it hehe. I am actually using the said softwares in order to finish my thesis. Wish me luck!

Sketchup will blow oyur mind. If you can do anything in auto cadd you could do everything in sketchup, and its free. Just search sketchup.

Sketchup rocks! As a theatre director I use it all the time for design. They are adding new models to their warehouse almost everyday and the rendering options, for my purposes at least, will finction on any reasonably recent machine. I am a huge fan and recommend it all the time to anyone who needs design software, particularly if you need something you can use "out of the box" without a huge learning curve. Good luck with the thesis.
