If you are unable to pay a debt what would you do?

I borrowed money and suddenly lost my job, now I am unable to pay for my debt. I've tried talking it out and begging for more time, and I have myself a reprieve. If you were in my situation, what would you do? Would you hide from your debtor, would you borrow from someone else to pay the other one?

Good day TheMonkeyKing! No, I will not hide to my debtor and definitely not to borrow again from others to pay for the old debt, knowing that I have no means to pay for it.
A line of a song says, "God will make a way where there seems to be no way. He works in ways we cannot see, He will make a way for me...." Nice song, isn't? We all eventually face an event or circumstance that leaves us anxiously looking for a way through. Every human plans fall short, every mental search leads nowhere, until finally all hope is gone. You are not alone, others experiencing it also. Keep on praying and ask to lead you on the right thing to do. Remember that, even when there seems to be no way, God will make a way for you.... Just TRUST HIM! Hope in this little way I encourage you. May God financial provision be upon you. God bless!

We daily pray for hope and guidance. It is in Him we have entrusted our lives. I will try to look for that song. Yes, perhaps all the plans we've made in order to recover has not prospered because it was not meant for us to do or have.
My father taught us by example how to have faith in the power of prayer and in God. Thank you for reminding us to pray.

Yes, we've made arrangements and so far we've been given a reprieve. We've borrowed a lot as the money was used for business. The chances of my getting a new job at the moment are slim right now as I am over forty. Call this my midlife crisis. ;)

I don't think borrowing from someone else would work, because you then would have the same problem. Can you work out a plan to pay back the money with your creditor? Maybe you can get some odd jobs cleaning or running errands to make some money.
I guess the first thing I would do is panic. Then I would look around at church, on craigslist, and with everyone I knew to try to find some ways to make some money. I would continue my job search, and if I had access to a computer try to teach myself some new skill to add to my resume.
I would see if there were services I could trade or ways I could save money, too.
I'm sorry you are in such a rough situation. I hope that you can find a way out.

I was told about "Borrowing from Peter to pay Paul". Like what you are saying, it is exactly that, it doesn't solve the problem. I'm trying to earn money so little by little I can pay off all of my debts.

I would not definitely burrow from someone else to pay the other creditor. Its like robbing Peter to pay Paul. If you are unable to finance your current life style than try to lessen your expenses. Try to see what are the needs that you really have and that you can get along without. Try to limit your expenses. Hiding would not do much good. Better face the consequences for your actions like a man should do.

I am so sorry that you have lost your job. I know I have been out of work since I graduated college and as much as President Obama says that the job market will open up, I beg to differ. Can you sell things online that you no longer use? Can you cut expenses anywhere, such as not eating out much or spending less at the grocery store. Have you tried asking your religious leader for help with the bills (such as power) or whatever your heat source is. I know in my religion the church will help out if someone needs it. Could you give up your residence and move in with other family members or friends?

I am not so sure that our church will be able to help out the way yours do. They sometimes help out though in getting people find a job. They post available jobs in the community.
So far nothing has come out yet fro those I've applied for.
