how many of you know which of these two galaxies is bigger and by how much? i guess you also know that these two galaxies are in collision course and will fuse into a single galaxy in the future. don't know how long it'll take for them to collide. if you know then you may let us all know who are interested.

It is predicted that our own milky way and andromeda galaxy will merge within 5 billion years. It is 2.5 million light years away and the gap closes at the rate of 500 000 km/h. Andromeda is also the farthest object visible to the naked eye. I have also read that it has two nucleus at its center each having millions of stars.

Andromeda is by far much larger, almost 10 times the size of the Miky way galaxy actually. the "collision" you speak of is a bit of a misnomer. They will merge eventually, but stars are so far apart from each other it is entirely possible that not a single star from either galaxy will touch another star. this merger will likely take a billion years or more from beginning to end and no one alive at the time of it's initiation will even notice it happening because of it;s immense nature...you could live your entire life during that period and you will never notice Andromeda moving....even though it is traveling at millions of miles per hour. It would be amazing to be alive during that time though. Andromeda will make for a spectacular sight looming in the night time sky.
