...I haven't been very active here. I have so much to catch up on here, such as continuing to make replies to discussions I've started and I feel guilty I haven't been responding to my many friends' discussions. Well there's been a reason for it.
I do spend a lot of time over at Facebook, but now it's not due to the games but for a more darker side of what is going on at Facebook, and many people might not even be aware of this more sinister side to Facebook.
Anyone who belongs to Facebook, knows there are "groups" one can join up that reflect interests one might have such as being a cat lover, animal lover, religious beliefs, politics, etc. But what many people don't know is the more sick groups that are started there. I wouldn't have known about these groups save for PRO-animal groups that are trying to eradicate such groups. One group (now taken off and deleted) was the Dead Cats Anyone?? Members of this group glorified animal cruelty and abuse and would post photos and/or videos of cats being tortured, mutilated and killed for "entertainment"--one has to have a strong stomach to see them. They post videos of kittens being crammed into small cages, doused with gasoline and yes burned alive.
We of the pro-animal groups (and I'm the admin of one such groups) are tirelessly tracking these sick groups and reporting them to get them deleted. Some of us are going a step further in trying to get more attention about this and going after media attention. I'm for instance writing an in-depth article about it all and hope to submit it to as many places as possible.
Anyway, all this is taking a lot of my time which explains why I haven't been here much. I hope to catch up eventually here since I do miss being here.
Have any of you had to be MIA from MyLot due to some cause you felt needed a LOT of your attention? What was it? Or was it simply "life" intervened and couldn't be here as much?

I am so happy about your activity on Facebook. Just to read about makes me so upset.
I am working 7 days a week now and Mylot is my only luxury in life this year.
What did you missed?
Plagiarism!!!
There is Chinese forum that is mastering to copy almost every discussion from Mylot.

Well I just finished that article (have more to do) and it's now up over at Associated Content.
Ah the plagiarism issue. That was one of the reasons that other writing site I belonged to shut down as all too many were plagiarizing there...many of us, me included were on the watch for these cheaters. It never ends does it? If it's not one issue, it's another

I had wondered where you had been, but I automatically thought it was Facebook. But I didn't know that was the part of Facebook you were trying to deal with. I hope you and the others trying to put a stop to this succeed. It boggles my mind how anyone could find that amusing. And it is even more aggravating when people look at these pictures (people not involved in the cruelty), and give the posters a slap on the wrist for showing such horror. Someone posts something like that? I want the law involved.

It's been discouraging to say the least when so many of us have written to animal rights organizations and not get anywhere...they keep saying it's a Facebook issue which doesn't make sense to me. Since these are animal rights organization they should address the issue to, least that's how I feel--my article is now at Associated Content...I managed to finish it (have more to write also)

Well, now we know what's been keeping you away. Good for you.
Is there any way to prosecute these groups?

It sure would be great if these groups could be prosecuted. That would be up to Facebook since they could track the person's ISP address that starts them though...at least think so

That's really so sick. What those people do, I can't stomach watching any videos or pictures mutilating a cat, other animals etc at all. Why are people cruel like that? I mean, what do they get, really? Sick satisfaction? You are right in reporting those abusers to Facebook. Kudos to you.. I think I might want to do that too, whenever I find any sick baskets on Facebook, starting pages that are off violence in nature like that, I'll report for sure. Keep up the good work, Pye..and no worries about unanswered replies.

I sometimes have to take a break from my involvement in tracking down these sick groups...it's unbelievable how many there are...and it seems that yes we report them, and they get deleted only to have more sprout up...gets a bit overwhelming after awhile. But have no idea what sick pleasure these members have by having such groups

Good on you Pyewacket. You make me proud. It made me sad when I read about one group that you saw. :-(
I am also against cruelty towards animals. We even have a cat, even though it was not by our choice, decided to make herself at home with us. We took her back to her owner, but when I gave the cat to the owner, she wanted to get out of the owner's arms. She didn't want to go and it made me sad. But I told him, that if she gets out again to try our place.
Well she got out again and came to us. She has stayed with us ever since. I also know why she didn't like the owner as the owner has dogs and the cat is scared of the dogs.
I am happy that she is here because she does not get harrassed by dogs. I even think it is cruel to keep animals if the animal are getting harrassed all the time by other animals. Today, the cat gets harrassed by loving kids who smother the cat with love and affection.
So I support you with what you do. Keep up the good work

There is more to it. The cat has had kittens. 4 of the sweet little things. They are 3 and half weeks old. So cute. We are keeping one. But I am trying to find homes for 3 of them. I don't want to give them to the shops and don't want to give them to the pound but they are my last resort if I can't find homes.
I've sent you a P.m. because I would like to join your group to show moral support.

People are so stupid sometimes. I do enjoy facebook, and am a member of a few groups, but it's normal stuff like "Kris Allen Fans" "Colts Rock" (NFL's Indianapolis team...not horses) and "Fountain Lake High School alumni."
I do spend quite a bit, probably too much time, on facebook. There are many of my friends that I knew in Junior high and high school that I haven't seen in more than 20 years that have created a facebook, and now we are catching up on each other's lives! It's great, and what the site was originally designed for!
I applaud you for looking into this horrible thing. I will definately keep my eyes out for you. I can't imagine any of my friends making a group like this into a page suggestion for me. They know how much I love my little dog.

I found a good number of my past friends whom I hadn't heard from in eons too, so would never have found them if it hadn't been for Facebook. And yes, I must have been in a sheltered bubble world not realizing there were these sick groups at FB.

it's funny how cops never seem to find those groups.and you know there's probably some sick **ck on there that has really done it.
anybody that could laugh at something being burned alive needs to be taken out of the gene pool.
yea,i've had some causes occasionally..right now it's all my new "kids"..

I have a facebook account, but I don't pay attention to the groups, and I don't belong to any. That is really terrible about what they are doing to those animals, someone should do that to them.

Yes it's always been my thought that people who abuse animals should get the same abuse that they did to the animal

See what happens when something new comes along, and everyone is having a good time? Facebook needs more moderators or something to catch these people in the act, which is very disgusting. I think what you're doing is wonderful and I hope it works out in the end. I don't know why, but it still just shocks me that people do this, it's just so barbaric and sick-minded. And to think, they walk the streets among normal people, just makes me want to puke. If they're capable of doing this to helpless animals, you know what else they're capable of. Good work Pye!

First and most importantly Pye you have been missed. Welcome back friend! When I noticed that you had started a discussion I said to myself that I hadnt heard from you in a long time. As I kept on reading I than began to understand. I think I started a Facebook page but to be honest I didnt know what I was doing. To answer your question yes I have been MIA from MyLot. The reason being was that I had started a new job and had to take two weeks of training. By the time I got home It was impossible to keep my eyes open. Im afraid that meant no computer. No computer, no myLot. I'll tell you this when I came back it felt like I had been gone for years. Ever since then I make it a point to go on my computer even if its for only a few minutes. So far so good. Glad to have you back! Dont ever LEAVE again!! dl

Thanks for the well wishes Pye! Its hard when you become so busy that you dont have time for yourself. Im sorry to sound like your mother but the nurse in me tends to jump out when friends are concerned. lol Remember to make sure you are not over doing it. I have gotten to know you from your discussions and I know you tend to think of everyone and everything else before you. Make sure you rest and eat. Have a great day my friend! Im glad you're back. It wasnt the same without you in the mix. Happy MyLotting dl

oh my God pyewacket that makes me feel sick to my tummy. how can anyone want to start a horrible group like that, they must be really mentally ill.kittens being crammed into small cages.oh I am heart sick at this. I know that there are animal haters but groups to get on a place like facebook, thats just dreadful.I am so glad you are working towards getting media coverage of this. Cannot the society for the prevention of cruelty to animals do something towards getting the law onto this animal hater groups. What they are doing has to be illegal as well as immoral. Anything we as mylotters can do to help?
I was off line for three days when my computer refused to let me log on as it had a virus buried in it. so my son took my hard disc to his apt. and troubleshot it.then came back Monday last and got me back on line again. that was during the week we had all that weird weather here in Southern Ca. also the week I was down with stomach flu. yuck what a time that was.lol.I just hate the idea there are those cruel groups out there doing all that sick depraved stuff to poor defenseless cats and dogs..

Many of us have contacted the various animal groups such as ASPCA, HSUS, and even PETA...basically they say it's a Facebook issue..gee, great. My article is now done and is now on Associated Content though have other articles to do, but one of my suggestions in my article is to get media coverage such as writing to newspapers, and maybe even contact celebrities who are known to be animal lovers, like Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres--who knows they might make a show about it

I know and understand your work elsewhere. I am a member of some of the groups that are against the inhumane treatment of animals. I admire your work there. My work at Mylot has faltered several times and usually due to "life". I have a mood disorder and there are times I simply cannot get online. I have become addicted recently to responding to posts and some of the games on Facebook.

Hi friend
Pyewacket, as a cat lover, will understandably get angry with these groups. It is just like james woods going after the vampires. Track them down and eliminate them.
It is sad there are lunatics like these groups. Haven't they heard of peaceful coexistence or peace for that matter. I wonder if the members of these groups have been beaten by an ant or tickled by a flea when they were young. Where does this hatred to animals came from?
They are definitely out of their mind, sick mentally, and what more can we say. Getting satisfaction from torturing innocent animals. I pity the kittens, specially. Only disturbed people would venture into hobbies like these.
The authorities and site owners and administrators must be vigilant in monitoring these activities. The groups responsible for the act must be banned form the site and in my opinion be prosecuted because it is an act of crime. Lives are at stake here. These animals are also God's creations.
Regards

I think one of the best means in preventing these sick types of groups is for Facebook to monitor and review every group that goes up before it becomes a "live" group...that is to approve or reject the group..in other words, Facebook needs new policies

hi pye..
i havent been active here in myLot as much as i would like, too..
firstly becoz of my new 'job function' - which actually started six months ago - which at times requires my 'utmost' attention, that i dont even have time to read my 'normal' emails until it is time to leave the office...
i do get my myLot notifications everyday.. and try to respond to some, or at least 3 per day.. but even that seems difficult at times..
then.. yeap.. FACEBOOK !!.. even when i do have the time to go to the internet - i'd log on to FB first - check my farm, my cafe.. my wall.. and of course, when that happens, i'll get too 'absorbed' - i dont have time to check myLot anymore..
but i always have myLot in mind.. i wonder what my friends are doing.. and since i do get notifications - i somehow know their latest 'updates'..
got to make time and respond to more postings...

Mostly just life intervened....the need to get ready for my spring shows.....writing.....spring cleaning......so I haven't been here alot either....just answer a few everyday....Good luck on catching some of these nasty people.....I often wonder how someone with any intelligence can get caught up in doing such activities.....like people that spread viruses on computers.....if they have the smarts to do something like that why not use it for something positive instead of causing a bunch of headaches for others.

I cannot bear to go over to Facebook and look at any of that stuff, I really can’t! I am so thankful for people like you working hard to eradicate such sickness; it is beyond me…I just don’t understand it… I haven’t been here as much either because life had other ideas for me. It has been really busy since before Christmas with school holidays, husband on vacation, overseas and interstate visitors not to mention new pets! School started again in Monday after seven, yes seven long weeks at home the kids have finally gone back! I am still catching up on housework and doctor’s appointments and I am planning to start some discussions soon I hope; I have to empty my in box first!

Do let me know where such is and also send me your report as I abhor this kind of activity of hurting animals.
Do let me know.

How can people do that to animals? I belong to Facebook, but I hardly ever go on it. I don't belong to any of the groups. I never would have believed there would be groups that glorified animal cruelty like that! I know there are some sick people out there but I didn't think there were enough to form groups.
Doesn't Facebook have any guidlines for groups? I would think they would want to know what the group is about before they let it on their site. Too many groups like that will affect their reputation if nothing else!
