I have a daughter that will be 2 in feb. My husband and i have agreed that we will let her decide when she is ready to have them done. We are scared that they will get infected or ripped out at her age. She has a 5 year old brother and a 6 year old brother who are always wrestling with her.

I agree with you. I think it should be the a choice the child makes when they are older. Here are a few links about the subjects:

Well I am a guy and I had my ears pierced as a baby...so did my sister....I think its damn cute...and it doesnt harm the baby in any manner because it heals very quickly and if you dont like it all you have to do is forget about it and not put on earings....mine doesnt even exist anymore...its completely closed up....

My daughter was 6 months old when I had hers done and she didn't even wake up - was sound asleep through the whole thing.

I don't think putting any kind of nerve damaging hole in a tiny being isnt great, plue they could choke on an earring if they gott it out somehow.I see a baby like that, and I see a creature that didnt get to make a choice.

Im not really sure on this.I think it is cute, but I dont think I would get my daughters ears peirced, because she could tug on her ears, hurt herself, or chock on the earing.

I myself would let my daughter decide for her self. It maybe more painful when she gets older but the pain will go away.

I think that having your babies ears pierced is cute and harmless to a certain extent. They are so young that they don't realize what't happening to them. When they get older and wish not to have them (How many girls don't want their ears pierced) then they can take them out and allow the holes to grow over. Its that simple.

Both.
CUTE AND HARMLESS: Some cultures pierce a lot more! It hurts a lot less at younger ages and it is cuter than 'she' being called 'he' all of the time.
WRONG: Unless it's a cultural experience... it seems unfair to decide that for the child. ((Although, the holes will close if/when the child decides they don't like or want it.)) Plus, like the other poster said it's more safety-aware not to pierce.
It seems like more of an artform in today's society, but for different cultures it may have different meanings. Now, I'm curious; ) THANKS!
