I broke two teeth awhile back. The doctor was able to perform a root canal on one, and the other I had to extract because it was too damage. I now have pain when I clench my teeth. I also have pain in my ear, and slight fever. I was wondering if you ever had abscess tooth did you see your dentist for treatment or your primary care doctor. My sister who is a nurse said it really does not matter whom I see because the dentist is not going to drain it first if it is an abscess. She said the first step is treatment with antibiotics, and if that does not clear it up then they may drain it.

Poor you - very sore!
I get an abcess every now and again and nurse is right -the dentist won't touch it till antibiotics have had a try first.
The abcess I remember most was a very rough trip sailing from Knysna to Cape Town. Only a two day sail down the Indian Ocean side of South Africa but quite rough enough to make me sea sick.
Sea sickness is not a big problem for me. It is not pleasent but I just get on with sailing the boat and watch keeping. But this time the antibiotic pills never stayed in my tummy long enough to do any work! haha
The pain was so bad that in the end I jammed my toothbrush up the side of my tooth till the bristles burst the abcess. A bit messy but I washed my mouth out with a lot of sea water (plenty of salt water about!) and it did the trick and gave me blessed relief.
Not the sort of thing to do really but when a doctor/dentist is not around then needs must.
I really hope you get well soon.

..hi venshida.. I have had before and I can't stand the pain of toothache as a result of the abcess.. That was the most difficult pain for me to overcome.. I don't know what to do that time.. I just rush to the dentist and let her pull out my teeth.. the thing is, dentist wouldn't want to pull out teeth if it is still painful because of the abcess.. accordingly, it is not recommended.. but I didn't tell the dentist that my teeth aches.. at first, she told me to drink antibacterial first before she will pull it out but I insisted pulling it our right away.. At present, I'm so glad that my teeth are still very good and intact..

You poor dear!! I have had an infected tooth before so I imagine it's kinda similar. And they did put on antibiotics. I'd vote to go to the Dentist since they might want to do some x-rays to see how bad it is. You have my sympathy!! I don't think there is anything that hurts so much or interferes with everything in life..like talking, eating etc as a tooth can!
You might want to try and find some Clove Oil as it numbs the pain alot and really does help at least for abit. You do need to get it checked out very soon cause the infection could spread. Good Luck with it!
