Would you be willing to leave your job for volunteer work?

Not a lot of people will do this. In economically challenged periods like this people are holding really hard on their jobs. It's not gonna be easy--it takes a lot of courage to face that you are not gonna get much money from this, because it's purely volunteer, and it means that it's gonna require 99% of your time, passion, compassion, and the strong will to help others. However, it can simply be a very rewarding experience that cannot be compared to money.
I'm curious. Would you? I just want your honest answers.:-)

mjcookie,
Those who are well secure in all respects in life they can accept this
volunteer work, other than that it is very difficult to accept this one
becoz they are the soul person to contribute to their earnings to
His/Her family day today bread. In such a situation nobody can come
forward to take volunteer work in full time, but some may be contribute
their spare time as a humanity consideration to take this work, it is all
their own decision to decide it this will be includes me also.

no, i won't do that. i think i will need their help if i leave my job for a long time for volunteer work. and i think helpiing people is not a job in my life, if you meet people who needs help, go and help them. but i won't go and seek the people who needs help.

I would love to be able to do this if I was rich and never had to worry about money. But with a family, mortgage etc... It not easy for anyone to do this unless you are single and have no responsiblities.

If I have saved enough money to last me a lifetime then I would just give up my job to do volunteer work. I also have a family to feed, and before I could volunteer to help others I have to make sure that I am able to help myself first.

Let's be practical. I don't think anyone, including myself, will give up his job to take up volunteer work, unless his financial condition is such that he doesn't have to worry about his livelihood. But I know it's possible to have a full-time job and at the same time, work as a social welfare volunteer, because other people are already doing it.

No, because I believe I could help others more when I have money. and also there are a lot of other volunteer works that does not require us to leave our job.

Depends on how you look at it.
Some people really need their, say $40k jobs because that is what they do for a living and if they quit, everything would stop.
Yet, fields like law, business, real estate, technology and entertainment sometimes require people to pay dues by using their time to learn for free. This is not always the case but I hear of people quitting (though not lately) jobs that might pay 30K to eventually land a prospect that will pay $60K and up in a couple of years.
Others do it to get away from the rat race into something that more grassroots. They may not be buying next year's Lexus but they are happy and sometimes live longer and more spiritually prosperous lives.
Everyone has something that works for them at a certain moment.
As for me personally, I left a job that paid good money but I never be able to buy a house because L.A. prices are through the roof. I would have to have at least one fairly new car (or two running cars) because public transportation does not run much between 10:00p - 6:00a (the time I was supposed to be at work). The location was adjacent to rough parts of L.A. All that I would still be wondering what cuts is the Governator (yes, Aahnold) going to make next that could affect my job.
So it was just better to make the most of side projects and finish my education so that I could not only make more money but have more options besides hitting computer keys and collating papers.

I would love to say that I would gladly do so, but sadly, I can't. Unless the volunteer organization gives me a small allowance to at least support my daily expenses while I serve my time. I am not yet married and have no family support, so not receiving a fixed salary wouldn't be so hard for me. Yet I'm not getting any younger and these are the years that I should really be saving up for the future.
For years I've worked in non governmental organizations and the salary I got is almost like just an allowance and I didn't mind it then. Someday I hope to be able to to do that. For now, I will try to make a difference by staying put.

Yes you can. :)
I am just saddened by the fact that money can make people selfish. That shouldn't always be the case. I really hope there are more people out there to take a step forward to volunteering to help other people who are in great need. I believe that's everyone's purpose here on Earth: to serve God by serving other people.

To be honest? I wouldn't.
How can willingly help people for free, when at the back of my mind i have lots of
problems on how to support myself.
Charity begins at home, i can show love to others even if im not into charitable
work.
There are many different ways to help people.
Sometimes there are those that needs it very badly and they are right under our nose.

if i do have much resources, why not?. i want to earn more so i could help others. if i think ive reached that point already, maybe its time to start my other plans and that is to share to others what i have. id still let my business grow, and for that all would be flowing and is in the right place where i wanted it to be..
