I bought a boneless Turkey breast the other day and planned to put it in the crock pot. I figured my crock pot cookbook would have a recipe. Wrong! In my mind, I wanted to make a turkey stew similar to the crock pot beef stew I have made before. It would be turkey, carrots, potatoes, onion, onion soup mix and turkey gravy. Can anyone think of a reason this wouldn't work? Or have a better idea?

Here are a couple ideas:

Personally, I would use the second method and then cut it up and add it to the stew after cooking, because in my experience the pressure cooker is best for making moist meats in a liquid, whereas the slow cooker makes meats more tender when they are cooked without liquid.

Actually, I'm thinking of two different meals. For the stew, I don't use gravy. I use Swansons broth. Don't use College inn. It is very different. I also use Celery. It makes a world of difference in the flavor! I use the gravy when I'm making a sauce to serve over potatoes or toast. I use diced celery in both. It adds so much flavor!

I don't see why it wouldn't work, it sounds good to me. I would put some corn in it too but that is just me. I think it will make a wonderful stew, the only thing is you will either have to chop up the mean before you put it in or you will need to pull it out at some point and cut it up, I would not wait till the end to cut it up because it will probably be to tender and you will end up with long strips of turkey rather than cubes. I actually cooked a big turkey yesterday and I am going to make turkey masala over rice with the left overs tonight.
