Do you use a registry cleaner for your computer?

In visiting numerous blogs and other sites, my computer has from time to time gotten bogged down and runs slowly. I use a well known antivirus program, along with top rated spam blocking program and firewall. I've read that a registry cleaner can be helpful in keeping your computer healthy as it cleans up bits of files left behind, etc.
Do you use a registry cleaner, and if so which one do you feel is the best value for the money?

It sounds like a great product, and any time it's free as well makes it a must-have for me. We'd both better get it installed right?

Yeah, I use a registry cleaner. It also cleans all the unnecessary files inside my PC. It's a great tool for such a small program. The name of the software is Ccleaner short for crap cleaner. It's free to download on www.ccleaner.com

I use this too. Besides cleaning all the cache that get's accumulated when your surfing, it also has uninstall programs, clean registry and everything.
Just the other day I got back 1.3 GB of hard disk space. It's been a month since I've cleaned my cache.

Yes, I use a registry cleaner called registry mechanic which I got a while back so I don't know if it's free. It worked really well for me as it does pretty much anything like disk defrag, speed up pc, tells you how fast your computer is working,.etc... I haven't used recently as I have to get a new one but I would recommend this.

i suggest the uniblue registry cleaner if you need to boost your PC speed. Though, the other freewares such as the popular ccleaner is good, it also pays to have the paid ones at hand. if you want it for free and knows how to put in a serial code, try getting them from filehosts but be very careful of its viruses.

Yes, like another My Lotter above, I use ccleaner which is a very good product and it's free. It's a good idea never to go into the registry otherwise you can really cause problems to your computer if you don't know what you are doing. However, I installed ccleaner on my system and now I run a quick scan everyday after I finish my Internet session and it does a good job of cleaning everything up including leftover items in the registry database. By doing this on a regular basis you can really increase the perfomance of your computer in terms of speed. I would check them out in any case and the good thing is, it's free. www.ccleaner.com Good luck. Andrew

I just downloaded CCleaner thanks to all the glowing recommendations here, and ran a scan - even though I had just cleaned up temp files, etc using windows, CCleaner found a large amount more. I can see this is going to help keep things running more smoothly. Thanks for the recommendation Andrew. I will be doing this daily too.

Well the registry cleaner I recommend as have others is ccleaner. Firstly it's free but I have used it for years and never once had any issues with it. It's simple to use and always asks you if you want to back up your registry before cleaning it, which I recommend doing as it is quick and simple. Plus in the event of any issues you have a back up to fall back on.
Aside from using a registry cleaner I would recommend that you schedule a time for cleaning out deleted files from the trash and cookies, followed by a defrag. I do mine once a week and it keeps the machine running nearly as smooth as the day I got it.

That's a good comment that we should backup before doing anything like this. Now that I have CCleaner installed thanks to everyone here, I will run it daily, and also schedule a defrag every week. I admit I've only done it when I'm having problems, so thanks for the recommendations. They are much appreciated.

I don't use a registry cleaner, however, I do use good uninstallers. Compared to the Windows built-in program uninstaller, these uninstallers are much better as they are able to completely remove programs and will not leave any traces or residue behind in the registry. IMHO, this is far better than having to clean up the registry.

Interesting. This is an angle I hadn't thought of, but you're right, the bits left behind from uninstalling do cause problems at times. Thanks so much for your input.

I use CCleaner too but an alternative is RegScrubXP for Xp users which is free to use.
Another program I use is Auslogics registry defrag which may speed up your computer if you installed a lot of programs.

I have bought a program called Perfectdisk7. I have had it a few years now so I think there is a more updated version. It defrags the hard drive and the registry very quickly in comparison with Microsoft's defragger and the computer always runs better after I have used the program. _Derek

I have Vista on my laptop and Xp on my desktop and CCleaner on both my computers and I also have installed Advance Care. Both have great options for registry cleaning which makes all the difference in performance. Both those programs are free and easy to use and I recommend them. I clean out my computers once a week and this has kept my desktop and my laptop running quite smoothly.

I use only antivirus my friend. I never tried to use a registry cleaner. I know that cleaning the registry is one thing to make the computer run faster and healthy but if you don't have the knowledge in working with the registry please don't do it because that might be reason to damage your computer...But if you know in advance working with registry do it...
