What is an appropriate age to stop getting kids child toys?

My step daughter is 10 years old. She still loves playing with dolls and all sorts of "little" girl things. Many girls I know that are 11 years old don't have anything to do with cartoons or toys. So my question is when do we stop buying her dolls and things of that nature? We don't want to overload her with child toys when we know it won't be long before she has no interest in them! Help!!!

I was ten years old when I started my period, and that also happened to coincide when my parents stopped buying me little kid things, little girl things. But I had many friends who played with toys like that until they were thirteen. I guess it is a maturity thing. I wouldn't buy her any expensive toy now because like you said, it is a toy, and before long she won't really be into it, and then a lot of money was spent for nothing.

I know the "cash" factor is a big one!! Thanks for your response! I agree totally with it's time to stop buying expensive toys, now if i can get daddy to do the same!

It is lovely to hear of a girl playing with dolls and being a child. They grow up so quickly now a days.
As you know all children grow at their own rate and although it is natural to compare them to others their age it doesnt work!
She will tell you when she has outgrown them.
Mind you my husband hasnt reached the age of growing out of boy toys even now and can you imagine what it is going to be like now we are expecting our first Grandson?
