I grew up in a family where we watched a lot of professional sports. As a child I was an avid fan of professional baseball and I was also forced to watch professional football. Now that I am an adult, I have become a fan of motor sports with my favorite sport being NasCar. What is your favorite professional sport and why do you enjoy watching it? Have you ever been to an event in person?

I was not raised by sports fans. I was raised by 2 single women, my mom and my foster mom. My foster mom had a slight interest in our college basketball team, but that was about the extent of that. However I did become interested in sports in my teens. We have a minor league baseball team here in town, and my neighbors were huge fans. One day they brought me to a meet and greet just before the season started, and being your average teen I melted over how cute some of these guys were... one in particular. From that point on I made a point to get to as many baseball games as I could. I became interested in major league baseball as well. During the off season I did follow basketball a little bit, but baseball was always my favorite sport. When I was 16 I met a girl who lived in Toronto. She came to our town a couple times a year to watch our minor league team, because they were the farm team of the Toronto Blue Jays. We struck up a friendship, and that summer she brought me back to Toronto to stay with her for a week, then I took a train back home. I got to go to a week's worth of Blue Jay games! I saw them play the Brewers (sadly I forget the other team that was in town that week). A few years later I returned to Toronto with a different friend, just for a weekend, and saw the Jays play the Yankees! When I was 18 the company I worked for made us travel to New York City for a weekend. I didn't have time for sight seeing due to business, but I did make a point to go see a Yankee game in the old Yankee stadium! That was awesome. Turns out, they were playing the Jays that weekend, how cool! When I was about 19 or 20 and started getting into serious relationships and working and such, I began to lose interest in baseball. Basically once I met my first serious boyfriend that was the end of my sports interest. The last baseball game I went to was a few years ago when my oldest son's little league team was to take the field with our minor league team. My oldest son is a sports nut. This May will be his 13th birthday, and we are trying to plan a trip to New York City and see a Yankee game. He prefers football though, so maybe some day we'll go see a Giants game, or a Bills game as Buffalo is actually closer to us.

Minor league baseball is a lot of fun. We have a single A team in our city and I actually used to work as an usher for them when I was a little bit younger. It was nice to have the opportunity to see the up and comers and even have the opportunity to know some of the boys.

Hi Dorannmwin!^^ My favorite professional sports would be tennis and baseball/softball. I didn't grow up watching them though. When me and my brother were in grade school, my brother played baseball and there was a picture of him where he was holding a bat and I thought it was so cool to be playing a sports like that. I didn't know a thing about baseball then though. I learned about it when I was in high school. I got more interested when I first watched a baseball game. I thought the game was really cool and so are the players. And that was why I joined our softball team. And when I got into college, I joined the softball team too. Even though I'm not playing now, I'm still interested with the game. I haven't watched a live professional game though. Only on TV. It would be a blast if I could watch one live.^^ I got interested with tennis just a few years back. There was an anime about tennis, and I really liked that anime and I thought tennis must really be interesting. There was a Japanese drama I watched which was about tennis too and it also made me curious about tennis. I checked out real professional players and started watching some games on television and I started liking it. Now, my favorite professional player is Rafael Nadal. I haven't watched a live game of tennis too. To be able to watch Rafa play for real is one of my dreams.^^

You broke your leg? That must have been so awful! Being able not to play again and all that. I would be very depressed if that happened to me. Tennis is just like... like volleyball. If you understand that sports, then tennis is just like that.^^

I love baseball, I actually got to play as a child until I was eight years old, but then I broke my leg and the doctor would never release me to play again. That said, I do still enjoy watching the game. Tennis, on the other hand, I've never really been able to understand.

It was depressing to me. However, because of the fact that I did break my leg and have to have subsequent surgery on it, I did discover that I really loved swimming. I started swimming the summer after the accident (I was nine years old) and continued to swim competitively until I was eighteen years old, through high school. My college didn't have a team or I would have swam then too.

I believe the world would be a better place without competitive sports. It seems to me that our children would be better served if they were taught to co-operate, rather than compete. Imagine a classroom full of children who were ecstatic at the chance to co-operate and get the job done properly and quickly. There would be no more sports injuries, no more necks broken by over zealous members of the opposite team. Indeed, all members would be playing on the same team, and helping each other to win! This world needs everyone to be a winner every time. There has never been any advantage to being a loser! (and there never will be)

You missed the whole point of my response. I say, Why compete? Life would be much better if everyone was on the same page. You mention competing in the game of life? Don't you understand that in any competition one or more of the competitors has to lose? Why is it necessary for anyone to lose in the game of life, when its very possible for everyone to win every time by simply co-operating? There has been many more positives created in the game of life by co-operation, than there ever has by competition!

I don't know that I agree that the world would be a better place without competitive sports. The reason that I say this is that there is competition in all aspects of life. By letting children compete in sports from a young age I believe that they are better prepared to compete in the game of life.

I don't know that I missed the entire point of your post. What I am saying is that I don't think it is possible to have life without some form of competition. Even in the wild with animals there is competition for food and resources.

From childhood i have been fond of cricket which is a craze in my country, India and also in the Asian subcontinental countries of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and which is also being played in England, Australia, New Zealand, West Indies,UAE, Ireland, South Africa, Kenya, Holland, Canada and where ever Asians are settled.I used to play the game myself though not professionally but in our neighbourhood.I also used to go to watch the Test matches whenever players from any of these countries visited India to play against our national team. At present the South African team is here to play against our team but i cannot go to see it personally. However i shall watch it on TV.

Yes, it does sound very similar to our baseball. I would guess that American baseball evolved out of cricket although it could be reversed. However, the games are very similar.

For me a as child it was football (Australian Rules Football) in winter and cricket in summer and that was it! My interest in motor sports evolved as I grew older and became interested in cars. I was into Australian Touring car racing for many years, but find car racing a bit boring these days. I do still watch some of the iconic endurance races though. I prefer to watch motorcycle racing. It is the sport that I watch the most as I religiously tune in to every MotoGP and Superbike world championship race that is on. I have been doing this since the mid to late nineties and have only missed a handful of races over that time. I have been to both of these world championship events when they have come to Australia. I have been to the 500cc/MotoGP on four occasions and the Superbikes on four occasions also.

I have a motor bike licence and have ridden bikes in the past and even on a race track once. I have not ridden one for ten years now though. I enjoy the sort more than car racing as there is more passing and there is more on the line if you take risks in passing. The leaning makes it interesting! I used to go to the Nascars here in Australia years ago. There is only one track in the whole country and I enjoyed going to the races live, but watching it on TV gets a bit boring for me after a while as they just keep going round and round in the same circle over and over again!

You've brought up a great point about Nascar racing. I've never seen an event in person, but I imagine that if I ever have that opportunity then watching it on television will lose its appeal to me.

I've never been able to get into anything that has to do with motorcycles and I think that the majority of the reason for that is because I am legitimately scared of them.

Hiya doran, Love watching Ice Skating which is coming up this Month on the Twelfth. Other Sports can catch my attention too I like Football but this year there will be only seven whole days completely free of Football on this television. Water Sports, Sailing, I love watching Surfboarding and the Yacht Sailing and waterpolo sometimes and that swimming where they all swim together at the same time in groups under water.

I don't enjoy watching any professional sport. I don't mind watching it, but it really does very little for me, unless I am watching Hockey Playoffs with friends, but that is more of a "Mob Mentality" kind of thing. I like to play sports, that is enjoyable and good for the heart. I have attended a Live Hockey Game once, but it wasn't a play off game, the best part was when the Girl in skirts came to clean off the ice....they was short skirts ;) Cheers.

No, it is hard to watch, because I don't find it interesting, the Scandals are with individuals not the sport. Like even mixed martial arts and wrestling is nothing to me, drag racing is nothing, Nascar(even though you like it) is boring in my opinion. Maybe live would be different, but I don't think so, I am just a "spectator" kind of guy, I would rather be involved. I appreciate you.

Really, it is also sometimes hard to just sit there and watch. It reminded me of thinking about sports parents that are always playing the sport from the sidelines.

Sometimes it is difficult to watch professional sports because all of the scandal that is involved with it. Still, I grew up with a family of sports fans and because of that I still have a love of sports.

Hi Dorann Truly, I am not much of a sports fan, but I can at least semi-follow most of them. The only events I have been to "in person" were drag races, my brothers high school football games, and my grandkids school sports. While not professional, it is definitely more fun to see the action in person and to know the players :D Karen

My three favourite sports have always been NBA, NFL and NHL I love the fast-paced nature of the three sports, and am obsessed with the ins and outs of each, like facts and figures and such I also like the fact that they are shown at different seasons, so when the NFL season is over, I can usually rest assured that the NHL season will just be starting up or something

That is one of the beautiful things about professional sports, you can usually find one that you like during each time of the year. And, yes, all of the sports that you've mentioned are very fast paced.

For as long as I can remember I have watched football (soccer) on the television. It started when I was about 6 years old as two programmes used to be on during Saturdays, "Grandstand" on BBC1 and "World of Sport" on ITV. This was before the onset of satellite TV! There weren't many live games on but when they were aired it was a major event, especially England games...the World Cup, that kinda thing. Saturday nights are STILL big nights for football programmes, "Match of the Day" being the main one that highlights the Premiership games of the day...then there's the League Show after that, featuring all clubs below the Premier League. Our team is in League One (hope you're following this)! On Sky Sports they show the most live games, mainly the Premiership. These days I go and see live football games with my husband. We watch our local team Carlisle United. They're nothing like Man U or Liverpool as there is a huge gulf between the lower league sides and the Premiership...but we can dream we will be in there one day!We might even get to Wembley this year as Carlisle are still in a competition called the Johnstone's Paints Trophy. If we get past Leeds a week today...it will be Wembley here we come lol.

My brother played soccer while we were growing up and because of that I've been a somewhat fan of the sport. I've never been able to get involved with the professional level, but at a recreational, high school and college level it is a great sport to watch. I love the pace of the game.

A fun professional sport that I enjoy to watch would be soccer it really gets me energetic with yelling. My brother plays soccer so I am always screaming and cheering them on to victory. I just love to do that. Sports are always fun because they get me excited. Without sports I would be bored because I love to watch then. If it's on tv or in actual life then I love it. My whole family in fact loves to watch soccer we just enjoy the sport it gets us all active we can be bored one minute turn on the tv and instantly get unbored.
