On the weekend before MLK day, there was an area day of service through Rochester Cares. There were several local projects, including helping at the food bank and a recycling center. The group I was with got assigned to an area recycling center where we sorted out printer ink cartridges and cell phones to be sent back to manyfacturers for recycling. It was a fun morning, and for a good cause.

I have actually been to Rochester. It is a very nice town. Service days are excellent, and I am glad you had good participation. There is a movement in some parts of the country to add service to school curriculum. Some churches also put a strong emphasis on service. That actually sounds like much more fun that playing video games or watching television.

I thought some schools had started that already? Didn't President Clinto start something?

Some do, I guess. I think the Christian schools around here do it. The two church sponsored colleges started adding a community service day as part of orientation long before Clinton. I do not know if they still do it.
