If you believe that God has a plan, why do you pray?

Been thinking about this quite a bit, as of late. I hear so many people say, especially when something bad happens to them or someone they know, "Everything happens for a reason" or "God has a plan for you..."
If that's true, why do we pray? Why do we ask for things in our lives that we feel would better our situation? Regardless of what it is that we pray for... that new job you interviewed for, an ailing grandparent's health, dare I say... winning lottery numbers to help our financial situation? The list goes on. But if you are one of those people that say everything happens for a reason, or these bad things in your life happen because it's part of God's plan, what really is the purpose of praying each and every day? Is it simply an exersize that we go through to make ourselves feel better? It just seems to me that by praying for these things, you are attempting to disrupt what has been set forth for you.
I'm not challenging one's beliefs, I'm simply asking for some understanding.

Makes me wonder too. But I believe in the power of prayer. Though things happen for a reason and bad things may happen because it is part of God's plan, I think He is trying to teach us a lesson that we need to learn while in this life because He will mold us to become the best that we can be. Our life on earth is a preparation, a time to prepare to meet God. It is his commandment to pray to him for guidance and we follow it. We might not understand His purpose why he wanted us to do all those things but let's pray for an obedient spirit. I know it is only for our own good. Just like Abraham, he was commanded by the God to sacrifice his only son and he didnt ask why, he obeyed because he knows that God knows better than he does. And because of Abraham's obedience, he was blessed. Not only him but his whole household, I think its the same way for us too.

Praying is not only asking for those plans to be implemented. We do praying as a form of thanksgiving, adoring him and worshiping and praising him as our God.
God has plan for us, we must pray since the bible tells us to do so.God has plan for us but this plan might not be implemented because of our own will. Sometimes there are times in life that you go away with God by doing wrong things.
We must pray to him in order for us to have a spiritual strength so that we will not be taken away by temptation, and thus making us away from God and from the fulfillment of his plans.

I think of it as along the lines of free-will (imperfect as that too is now) as opposed to being some sort of auto-matron never endowed with thinking ability/individuality/the ability to make choices.. Life's an intricate pattern (and an unavoidable journey & lesson, if there's to be thinking ability, that is). I think (too) a lot of what life is, is a working through of our own psyches..
- And actually God may have a plan, outline or basic blueprint of one's talents, abilities, path and people in our lives..etc.. but we still have the ability to choose.. Paradox? Maybe. and perhaps paradox is nothing more than our own lack of understanding and perception..

Praying is a way of communication between God and mankind, Its true that he has a plan,as in the bible ssys, HIs plan is perfect, Im praying because sometimes my plan manipulating and i want his plan to take over my plan ,, Im only a human sometimes we get trough to our plan first not his plan so we stumble, and i asked God's plan to take over my plan. Not all our hearts desire is just in God's sight , sometimes we asked for something he refused to give because he know that we ask for something is not meant for us, we can do the our best but God will do the REST!One verse in the bible which i love most, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.. So what im doing is to trust and believe! God's way and plan are perfect. God bless everyone ..

Yes I do believe that God has a plan. This is the way I see it -Every living thing, (this includes vegetation, fish, animals, and humans) are like chips off of God. WE are creators, just as is God. WE create our lives minute by minute, and day by day. This makes humans a Small Part of God, and we are also part of His (our) plan. I am thankful for God's Plan. I am thankful for being a small part of God. But I never pray, because I believe being thankful is the way to go.

God has plans for everyone of us.even if He has plans for everyone of us,He still gave us the freedom to choose.we can still go for what we want.we still go for what our free tell us to do or choose.even if God has plans for us,He didn't make us as puppets He can control and will to do what He chooses. He gave us a thinking mind and free will.also,I believe prayers are not just for asking something.it is a way of thanking Him and asking for His help when we want something (again,we can choose about things that we want).

I believe that praying does not only involve asking for good things to come to us. It is also about thanking God for our everyday blessings, being sorry for our wrongdoings and acknowledging what He has done for us in the middle of our hardships. Yes, I agree that God has plans for us, but I think it also needs some work and faith from us in order for it to happen.

I believe we're praying for our wishes because we're weak. We can't easily accept that we may have meant to fail at some points.Or we're praying out of our fear. We know that we might fall, and when that happens we'll hope that God will show us the way out. But we're actually praying to ease our mind. And that's true according to science fact and the saying:" Come to God and He will ease our pain."

For me, we pray because parents taught us how to pray. I believe that we are predestine and that is why, I do not believe that there is s free will created by God because only God knows the past, present and future. He knows everything so, what is the use of praying if God has already a plan for all of us, huh? He was the one controlling our lives here on earth, not us.

We pray because it is how we communicate with God. I believe that God's plan is a dynamic one, it is not fixed. I mean that whatever happens to our lives is a result of our interaction with God and our choices in life. Whenever we pray we usually ask for something, if not, it's about a problem that has been bugging us for quite sometime already..
Haven't you've noticed that whenever we pray, we feel at ease and it seems everything would be alright. If you haven't felt this, then maybe you haven't communicated with HIM effectively or you are to preoccupied with other things that you failed to notice HIS presence.
Praying for better things is not bad, or would it disrupt God's plan for us.. Remember that God gave us the freedom to "Choose". In praying God will know our plans in life and He would be able to integrate it in His ultimate plan for us. It doesn't mean that all that we ask of Him will be granted in the form or package that we want it to be. We need to understand that God grants our wishes "in HIS time" and in packages we expect the least. So it is important to keep an open heart and an open line to God, through praying...
