How do you read numbers aloud?

I noticed that my husband and I read numbers differently. For example the number 132457689123 How would you read it out loud if you had to tell it to someone. I would break it up as follows 13 24 57 68 91 23 but my husband would say 132 457 689 123 and that really confuses me if I am writing down it sounds funny to me like that almost like a different number. How would you read out the numbers? 2 by 2 or 3 by 3 or even 1 by 1?
