I most certainly need them, without glasses I would probably crash into doors :-) I got my first glasses when I was 8 or 9 so I don't think I worried very much about what I'd look like. I'm so used to them now that I don't really think about what I'd look like without them, although I have lenses too. I only use the lenses for riding etc, not for going out. They itch when I'm inside.

It's the ability to judge distances I think, because the left eye is twice as bad the right eye, so when I don't wear glasses I don't get the same depth or something like that. At least things don't seem to be in exactly the right place.
I've got quite a few friends that have had lasic surgery, but as my eyesight has been very stable the last years, I've had the same prescription for more than 15 years, I don't want to risk it yet. Plus many of them have got worse sight at night after the surgery, and I want to wait with that til I'm at least over 50 :-)

I've worn glasses most of my life, for distance. I could get contacts to avoid glasses, but won't. If there's something I'd rather not see (like some one's bedroom ) I just take them off...lol.
To adjust to them, try to find ones that have no frames, people hardly even notice those kind, plus you will be less bothered by seeing the frame in your line of vision. You can also find these cool little reading glasses that fit into a container no bigger than a fountain pen. Those are easy to carry in a purse, bag or even in your pocket. And easy to use and put away.
Somehow I can't picture you being the type to wear glasses on a string. Maybe you can bring back the popularity of monocles? What about going the other route and having fun with them...a la Elton John?

I don't have glasses, but I think I'm gonna be needing one as well. lol. My boyfriend just found out the other week that he needs to wear glasses. His not that thrilled as well, but he badly needs it, he just keeps saying that he'll be looking like Clark Kent to make his self feel better. lol.
Why not try contact lens if your not that comfortable with wearing glasses?

Ah....I've always find reading glasses to be sexy, even though you think it might look kind of ridiculous. Especially on ladies. It's cool right, to be only needing them when you want to read something, and in fact, you can see stuffs far away. Just go with it, I'd say..

I bet if you keep looking you'll be able to find frames you love. There are so many different choices, there really is something out there for everyone. When I found out I needed glasses I was actually kind of excited, I was intrigued by getting to pick out a pair of cool frames but I'm not blind enough that I have to wear them every minute. I really did get used to them and now that I have a selection of frames I love to match my glasses to my outfits, there an awesome accessory. I found a great online store that has super cheap prescription glasses and sunglasses so now I have like 10 different pairs.

I was in fourth grade when I found out I needed glasses. I was very embarrassed. I stuck them in my pocket and the teacher made me put them on. I had no idea up until then that the teacher was actually writing things on the board! we had no idea how bad my eyes were. I have worn them ever since, so I guess you could say that I did get used to them!

well, if i remember it right i kinda refused to wear a glass not that it looks bad but something makes you different, and i thought contacts would be cool than having glasses, but when i see nowadays its a fashion to wear cool glasses and i too looks not bad enough in it and i thought to try it,now as you can see i am used to wearing glasses wherever i go and at all time.

First I highly doubt you will look ridiculous in your glasses, it is a common misconception for people that they will be the ones that look horrible in them. Plus you do get to pick out what pair of glasses to wear. If you're truly concerned about it do the surgery or something. I reacted a bit worried when I found out, but it was more that I would lose them and that my eye sight was going. I'm quite use to them and really find nothing wrong with them to be honest.

Well, I started using glasses at 18 because I failed the eye test for restricted driver'slicense. I had the feeling that was going to happen because I was noticing I had trouble seeing from far away. I got used to them right away. The thing is the more you use them, the more you need to wear them. Your eyes get lazy and accustomed to the lens. I would wear them all the time because without them everything was blurry from a short distance.
Shortly before I got married I started using contacts because I didn't want to wear glasses on my wedding day and I also wanted to able to SEE from far away and not get a headache. I wore the contacts for years. I would alternate with the glasses when I wanted to give my eyes a rest. When I had my kids I stayed home to take care of them and started using my glasses again because one my lenses tore and due to lack of time dealing with the kids, laziness and short on money never went to get to the eye doctor to get another pair of contacts. Since I was home most of the time and not driving that much and also spending little time on the computer I started using my glasses less often and eventually noticed my eye sight was improving! I could watch tv without them! Then I would only wear them for driving. My eye sight continue to improve and sometimes I would forget my glasses and not wear them at all and I was ok. I don't wear them anymore because I don't feel I need them and also because my last pair got lost somewhere in the walmart parking lot hehehe.
Anyway, the vision improvement has a reason and it happens to a lot of people with myopia. As you get older the position of your eyes changes and you start having problems reading up close so you start needing reading glasses but since I wasn't able to see from far ,and now getting older, I'm having the reverse effect and I'm able to see from far away now. I still have no problems seeing up close, don't need reading glasses yet.

I was very sad when they told me I needed glasses but I couldn't see clearly without them, so I really needed to start wearing them. I've become used to them very soon, and everyone says I look good with them, so I wear them all the time (I can't see without them anyway), even though I feel really ugly. Have you considered wearing contact lenses? I wear them at least 10 days a month and I can feel pretty again :)

Hello. It might just be your opinion that they look bad on you. Have you asked anyone else what they think of them on you? I have to wear them all the time. I absolutely hated them when I first got them. I was a kid when I was told I needed them and it was not something that other kids were nice about. I went through several pairs at first because I hated them so bad. I even went as far as to ask friends to sit on them and break them so I didn't have to wear them. What helped me was taking someone with me to to give me an opinion of what they thought of a pair on me. I eventually got used to them and they don't bother me now. You are lucky if you only have to wear them to read, so don't fret, it could be worse you could have to wear them all the time.
