I know people use informal English more often than formal English. I think I was hardly taught much formal English when all of a sudden I was requested to speak or write in formal English in some language tests like TOEFL or IELTS. There are a great many people facing the simliar embarrassment like me. So I wonder where and since when you have started learning formal language?

I have been learning formal English since I was three years old, it just something Americans are taught and it is like people from other countries learning how to speak formally in there language.

Hey magic9 I think school is the best place to learn formal English. You can learn it from books by yourself as well. I think English printed in books is quite formal one.
