I've known about the twist almost since it came out at the cinema
Finally got to actually watch the film (only 10/11 years late), discovered that it works totally knowing that from the beginning- there's a whole other set of layers to it, about love, loss and redemption, and it's not really a 'shock twist in the tale/fooled the audience' story of 'he was dead all along' at all but of people learning how to help each other by listening.

I was told the ending before I had ever seen the film which annoyed me so much though I still went to see it and like you found that it doesnt actually ruin the film in the slightest by knowing the twist. The layers within the film on different subjects make this film well rounded and a pleasure to watch
