For your protection online, as much as possible, you should join only sites that are BBB accredited (BBB stands for Better Business Bureau. In the U.S., i think there is a BBB serving every state). So in case of fraud, there is someone or there is an organization that will go after the perpetrators of the fraud. Once reported, BBB will take disciplinary action or will coordinate with existing government agencies to punish the perpetrators. One example of BBB accredited sites is SFI of which I am affiliated with. Doing online business with SFI means "doing business with peace of mind".
