Do you watch the movie before you read the book?

I'm annoyed at Twilight fans. Why? Because when the book was released, there were no screaming girls or anything. But when the movie was out, that was the only time when the fans started coming out because of "Hot edward"
I think that watching the book's movie before actually reading it is a big no-no. You might not like the book anymore because it didn't turn out the way the movie did. And you won't understand the story that much.
No offense to Twi fans, By the ways.

I'm quite the opposite. I read the book first before watching the movie. I've done this for Twilight (the whole saga), Angels and Demons, and The Lovely Bones. the result? I get disappointed with the movie, because a lot of changes have already been made to compress the whole story into two hours. I believe that the book will always be better than the movie version. I'm not a big Twi-fan anyway. :-)

You think it's bad for Twilight? Imagine the surprise on the Tolkien board I post on when the first pictures from the first film were released, and the board suddenly filled up with teen-age girls (or what seemed like teen-age girls) screaming "Orly! He's so cute!" They couldn't even pronounce Minas Tirith properly (not to mention Carcaroth) *shocked expression*
;-)
I prefer reading the books first, but in some cases I find the films better.

i love the twilight movie..but i love the book more. I was able to watched the movie first and it got me interested to read the book behind the movie. After reading the book, I happen to enjoyed it more than the movie. If I were able to read the book first before watching the movie, I will only be disappointed because the movie lacks some goods scenario's from the book.

I usually watch the movie first. I saw the horror film "The Keep" on HBO. Something made me want to get the book. After reading it, I enjoyed the book much better than the movie. And I agree, they sometimes take the parts out of the movie and I wonder why the character did this or that. In the past thought, I always tried to see what really happened after seeing a historical movie like The Alamo, Sink the Bismark, and The Titanic; so I'd get the book.

For me, it's a must to read the book before watching the movies. A lot of scenes that are nicely written in the book are deleted in the movies. It's just so disappointing. I've done reading the whole Twilight saga books but all the scenes that I love in the book were edited in the movie or worst deleted in the movie. Same with the Harry Potter books. It's really better to read the book before watching the movie. You can also appreciate more the story if you do so.

what about harry potter and the saddle club. i had the saddle club books back in the early mid 90's, i gave up afer so long of reading them. but it took nearly 10 yr before the it hit tv, and i found the way they put in on tv made the girls seem dumb, on horse things. as for harry potter. i've not read any of the books, but we do have of, the first ones when they came out in the late 90's. but didn't really hit till, the movie was coming out. then u have lord of the rings also, but i think may not be everyones cup of tea for reading.
i thought abotu reading the twlight books before the moive came out, but didn't get the feeling to do it. but since seeing the second movie, it inspired me to get them and read the books, i loved them.

Hey, I saw plenty of screaming fans about the books before the movie deal was even public. Girls in my classes would be like, "Have you read Twilight?!?!? Have you read Twilight?!?!? SQUEE! I loved it so much!!!" Which is why I avoided Twilight for the better part of two years before a friend of mine snuck it in my books-to-read stack, and I read it to appease her. Then I surprised myself by actually liking it.
The screaming book fans were there, just the majority of the world was pretending they didn't exist and that's why you didn't see them.
And I liked the Twilight movie. It wasn't as good as the book (What movie IS?), but I thought it followed the book as best as it could and I enjoyed it. For the record, a book movie never ruins the book for me. I just ignore the movie, wipe its memory from my brain, and read the book again. Even the times I've seen the movie before the book (Which is pretty rare, I try to read the book first, I've still enjoyed the book.

This is an age that people are more fond of new media just like video or somthing instead of book and paper. However,I still think that reading do help us think deeply.By the way, the moive of twilight is also great.

Hello lovestrings! Is this question is intended for book lover or movie goer? ...haha, just kidding! I haven't read any books of the movies I've already seen. But honestly, there's a desire in me that after I watched the movie I'm looking for that book, like what I did in Narnia, though I didn't read it yet but I want it to be my collection. I'm not fun of reading, actually.

I agree with you. I read the Twilight books long before the movie came out, it was june, two years ago. When everybody was asking me what I was reading, and I told them it's a vampire book, everyone laughed at me because I was reading them. But then the movie came out and everyone was dying to see it because of EDWARD. I'm a huge fan of the books but I didn't like the movie(s). I also think that it's better to read the book before watching the movie.

I am also a "read the book first kind of girl".
In fact, this weekend my friend and I were discussing "Precious" and as we were talking about it I couldn't recall if I had seen the movie or not. In the end I determined that I had not seen the movie yet, because the only charecter's image cold come up with in my mind was the lead actress; pictured on the cover. As usual, I am told that the movie doesn't hold a candle to the book, by my friend who had both seen the movie and read the book.

It depends. For some of the books I have read first and some I have watched the movie first. But the movies will never be better than the book!

I'd much rather read the book first then watch the movie. For a long time, it's the way I'd do it. Read the book, then go see the movie. I'm not really sure why, but it's just the way that I've always done. I enjoy doing it this way. This 'system' works really well for me.
