Do you like to stand-by your computer?

i prefer hibernating my computer rather than selecting the stand by mode because when it is in hibernate mode, it saved all the current settings of my computer and in this case, i will not wait for few minutes to be able to load all the needed programs in my computer. hibernate is also good since it will shut down the power consumption of the laptop while as you said stand by mode still uses the power of the computer.

I used to put my computer on standby mode when I'm away for more than 10 mins but less than an hour, but I don't think it works out well. It would usually turn on itself with the slightest touch of the mouse so every time I come back, it's already not on standby. What a waste of electricity.

Mine's mostly on all day,and I just tun off the monitor; I will restart the computer atleast once a week. But then again my computer is always running a program called folding @ home.

I also don't like to stand-by my computer rather as you said i also prefer to shut the monitor off while i am not in front of pc while i am downloading something from Internet,otherwise i simply shut down the pc when not in use.

I don't like to stand-by my computer, because I think it is bad for the memory of it. I just shut it down when I don't use it and when I need it switch it on again

I don't use stand by mode. I just turn off my monitor. When it is in standby mode, all downloads get stopped. So i prefer turning off my monitor. It saves some power and heating up the monitor. It is advisable to turning off the monitor

I also do the same thing as I also don't like to take the computer in stand by mode,In place of it I switch off my monitor so that a little electricity will be saved and will help prevent global warming.I think all of them should do that if you have anything to do in some time then they should switch off the monitor so that some electricity will be saved.

You can set-up the setting of your PCs stand-by mode to not ask for password when it comes back. It just turns off the monitor after a period of inactivity. I usually just leave my PC on when I go to sleep when I'm downloading something.
