Our city is looking at laying off policemen and firemen because of the budget crunch. Now, we are building a new ballpark when we have a perfectly good one already, our city workers are unwilling to give up there city paid for cell phones, parking and cars, but we can't pay our rescuers and protectors? Really?
Our firemen have decided once again to take a paycut so that they can continue to do their job since the only other option given them was layoffs. The police are looking at layoffs if they don't accept the paycuts.
An option was given to the mayor that people would be willing to pay a few dollars extra per month on their city provided water/sewer/trash service so that there would not be layoffs or paycuts. He wouldn't even give the people the option to vote on it.
What do you think? Would you be willing to pay a couple of dollars extra a month to be safe and protected?

Hi, mac6304! Yes, i would pay an extra $5.00 a month to be safe and protected. I would try to get a petition started on this matter to try to get it before the people so that they can vote on it. This mayor doesn't sound as if he/she has the peoples best interest in mind. If the people are willing to pay the extra money so there would be no layoffs then this is what should be done.
