Are you a myLot tactician?

February 3, 2010 1:15pm CST
So here’s the question. If you are suddenly inspired and come up with a series of ideas for discussions do you just blurt them out all in one go and run the risk of people getting bored of seeing the same name posting discussion after discussion and maybe not getting as many responses because of this. Or Do you keep them in an ideas file and then steadily post them, say one or two per day in the hope of getting a lot of responses to that day’s discussions so that you can respond to each of them without the fear of people getting bored of your name appearing as a discussion starter. Personally when I suddenly get the inspiration for a few discussions I try to spread them out over a few days.

Hi abhiabhiabhiabhi, funnily it wasn't so much your previous discussion which got me contemplating it, although it may have spurred me to post this, rather than when I was looking through the discussions that my friends had started and one name just kept on coming up causing me to skip over much of what they had started.

@ giftsandbagscom - firstly many thanks for joining in. The simple reason is that I come on here for about an hour at the end of the day and enjoy reading and participating in discussions from a wide variety of people. It happens that I had already responded to 2 of their discussions and really fancied responding to discussions from someone else rather than just the same person over and over again and because of this I just skipped past all their discussions which were showing as one after another. Now to my thinking, and this is not to say it is right, but if they had spread those discussions out more than I may have responded to more of them. It all boils down to what you are on myLot for as to what works best for you.

I have no tactics when coming to discussion. My discussions are related to my life. If I am busy, I may start one discussion per 6 months and keep responding in random occasion. If I have time off, I may start few discussions related to my life little obstacles that are very common and many people can relate to it. I may avoid people who start numerous discussions per day and never comment to all responds...

It's sometimes best to blurt it all, and see what others have to say, and at other times hibernating with thoughts and just answer politely. I am in between all these categories, but I, too enjoy a good discussion and debate anytime.

Most of the time I just come up with at least 1 or two ideas a day to post for a discussion. It is not because I am lazy to start one but it is because I love to sort the topics in the discussion and sometimes it will show that another person already posted the same topic so I just end up participating in the discussion instead of posting the same one. I rarely start a discussion and does not really feel bad if only 1 or two people will respond as long as they are quality responses. Usually whenever I start a discussion it is because I encountered something unusual, experienced something I want to share, I have thoughts or point of views I need to blurt out or just want to seek advice and get idea from other people especially if I am in a situation where I need to make a decision and confused over something.

When i have many ideas for starting discussion, i write all on a paper and will post one or two per day, but ideas come rarely this month... I don't like to post many discussions at one time, it's like spamming ^^' and people don't like spam!

I'm quite new to mylot so my first instinct is to post everything that I think of. I didn't know that someone could skip over my posts because I'm being overzealous. But now that I know, maybe I'll pace myself. This is really a great advice.

Hi abitcurious and many thanks for responding. The thing is we are all different and just going through the responses to this discussion there are some who like me do skip over discussions if they are all from the same member whilst others don't have an issue with it. In many ways it's impossible to work out what is the best way to go about things and you just need to get in to a routine and a way that suits you.

I don't come up with THAT many. On a really good day I might come up with 4 or 5, but most days it's just one. So no, I don't ration them. Once I think of them, I have to get them out. For one thing, when I think of them, I compose the entire thing in my head, so just posting the subject somewhere wouldn't work. I suppose I could write the whole thing somewhere and save it, but I just don't.

If I have a good idea for a discussion I will post it as soon as I can... and if I have 5 ideas I will post them all... unless while posting I decide I don't really want to discuss that topic. That happens to me a lot.. usually when I'm stressed out or upset and I get to venting about it, then I'll stop and think "This isn't something I really want to share with strangers" and I'll cancel out of it.

I am a poor starter of discussions and I can say i am a great responder alone.I don't spend a lot to frame posts. So whenever something hits in my mind,i don't keep on counting whether it can be one or many.Just shoot them out and I hope my friends will not disappoint me.

I just blurt it out. When I want to respond to a discussion I will only search for the topic that interest me. In that way, I will know what I want to type right away. I don't like to think too much of what I would type in my response. I just type what cross my mind. Have a nice day!

So you're a mylot tactician? Whenever I get ideas I just start discussions without thinking of people getting bored of seeing my name. I do want to earn. That's why I joined mylot in the first place. But I also want to have fun. For me, being a tactician takes away the fun. It makes me feel better when I start a topic right after I thought of it because the excitement is till there.

I often have similar ideas to other things that have already been posting so I don't post all the things I think about for Mylot.
