Is Technology Merciless...?

We all know that we are addicted to technology surrounding us. Specially, people who work in IT company always have to poke there heads in their laptops/desktops all day/night untill there laptops/desktops beg for mercy. Just imagine of a situation, you are not feeling well so you somehow got to work from home using your internet connection and from your laptop. You have an urgent deadline to meet and suddenly internet stops working and you no longer can work.... or it could be any situation you can imaging.
I know this sounds stupid but this is the truth. I also agree that without technology it would be impossible for us to be what we are today. And as it is for everything, technology has its own great merits. So, Please share your thoughts on this.

Its not the tech, its the people using it. Anything taken to an excess is not good for us either physically or psychologically.
I have seen people on both ends of the spectrum, those that refuse to use it under any circumstance, and those that use it to the extent where they do not communicate with people face to face or will not interact with people in person.
Life is a balancing act, as long as all aspects are in balance we are happy and productive. When we become out of balance, our life seems to be missing something and the effects are obivious.
