I just helped my daughter get her first car She has been working hard and saving her money. She went away to college for 1 semester and waited to buy a car until she was back home. She was able to get a great car and I put her on the insurance(she pays for her own) and.....well, now this is a new feeling.... I can't help but think...."Is she gonna be using that phone while she drives? Will she pay attention to all of the other drivers??" I know from watching her that it is almost an automatic reaction for her to pick up that phone when it vibrates....what about when she's driving??? It makes me afraid that it will distract her just long enough for something to happen. I think it was easier to just drive her to all of her schooling and work... I guess we just have to teach them and then let go and trust them to do the right things....easier said than done... It will be strange to not have to drive her everywhere.... Do you have a story about your new teenage driver ???

We bought a new car and handed the old one down to our son. He signed a contract abbout cell phone use while driving. He's still in high school so our level of control is a little more than it would be with a college student. He screws up we get to take the car back. If you are really worried about her and the phone I would have her watch the cell phone and driving show that Oprah did a couple of weeks ago, I know you can find it on line at her sight and some insurance company (progressive I think) is going to start using it as a teaching tool as well as some schools, it was a powerful episode and it seemed to get alot of peoples attention about how dangerous it is to mix driving and talking on the phone or texting.

Thanks....that's a pretty good idea. I do help pay for most of the phone....for now. I will find that Oprah thing and show it to her also. I saw part of that....it's a good example of how fast something can happen. Thanks for your response.
